Abouttheoriginof“TheOrderinCreationinNumberandGeometry”.

Theauthor,Frederik(Tontyn)Hopman,wasborninHollandin1914,wherehe

studiedtobecomeanarchitect. Attheageof18,afterthedeathofhisfather,hehada

powerfulexperiencethatledtohissubsequentstudyofOrientalesotericteachings. Thiswastobecomealife-longfascination. RespondingtothecalloftheEast,atthe ageof21,hetravelledtoIndiabycar. Inthosedaysthisadventurousjourneytook manyweeks. OnceinIndiahemarriedhistravellingcompanionandsettleddownin Kashmir,wherehelivedwithhisyoungfamilyfor12yearsuntilin1947theinvasion fromPakistanforcedthemtoflee.

StillinAsia,attheageof38,TontynHopmanhadaprofoundKundaliniawakening

thatgavehislifeanewdimension. Itwasduringthisawakeningthathehadavision ofGenesis,whichrevealedtohimthe‘OrderinCreationinNumberandGeometry’. Aroundthistime,however,TontynHopmandecidedtoreturntoEuropetoenablehis childrentohaveagoodeducationandhesettledinSwitzerlandtopractisehis professionasanarchitect. Laterheoccupiedhimselfwithastrologyandarttherapy. Here,inSwitzerland,afteralmosthalfacentury,thememoryofhisvisioncameup again,withgreatclarity. TontynHopmanexperiencedastrongimpulsetoworkon, andpresenttheimagesthathadbeendormantforsuchalongtimetothewiderpublic. Finally,outofthis,intheyear2000,‘TheOrderinCreationinNumberand

Geometry’emerged,inonlyafewmonths.

The Consciousness of theONE,realisingthatnothingissomethingcausesduality. Thisdualityarisesfrom:firstlytheOne(1),secondlyfromtheZero(0).

PotencyoftheZero

Thezerohaspotency. ThispowerisactivatedbytheprojectionoftheONE. Itis because of this,thatitunfoldsitscapacityofreflection. Itself,however,isnotthat whichitreflects. Justasamirrorreflects,butitselfisnotthesourceoflight.

Fromanenergypointofview,thelightunitradiatesinthedarkone. Therebythe radiationisreflectedandformstheprincipleofREFLECTION. Herebythereflecting unitremainsneutral.

Reflection and Duality

Reflectionismadepossiblefromthelimitationofthesurfaceofthesecondunit,(2).

Dualityconsistsoftheprinciplesofbothlightanddark,oftheconsciousandthe unconscious,ofbeingandofnon-being(nought),aswellastheprinciplesof AMBIVALENCEandILLUSION. Similarlyofenergyandinertness.

Inordertoillustratethis,wetaketwounits(Fig.2),oneofwhichisshownasalight, theotherasadarkCircle. Fromthistwothingscanberealised:thelimitationofthe CirclecausesaCENTREandtheconnectionofbothCirclestoeachothercausesthe principleofRELATING. Theprincipleofdualityiscausedbymutationof dimensionlessinfinitytothedifferentiatedfiniteness.

Thelightunitradiatesandthedarkreflects. Toillustratethis,hereisanexample takenfromtheheavenlybodies. Whenwe,byfullmoon,assertthatthislightis strong,wesuccumbtoanillusion. Themoondoesnotradiatelight. Thesourceof thelightisthesun.

InFig.2,thedarkunithasthepotencytoreflectwhatthelightoneradiates. Weare subjecttoanillusionwhenweattributeabsoluterealitytotheworldwelivein. Ithas beenscientificallyproventhatmatterispredominantlyemptyspacewhereinenergy sporadicallymoves.

ReflectionandPhilosophyofLife

TheabsoluterealityexistsonlyasabstractideasintheONE. Theambivalenceand abstractnatureofthedarkunitemanatesreflectionsofabstractimagesheldinthe totalityoftheONE. Therecognitionofthiscanhaveaspecialinfluenceonour philosophyoflife.

Thisrelativerealityofthedarkunityexistssimultaneouslywiththeabsolutereality. Weareoccasionallyawarethatweliveinthis. TheONEisthefoundationofthe creationofalllifeandsupremewisdom.

Increationdualityonlyhasrelativereality,butbecauseofthepresenceofthe

PRIMALONEineveryentitythereexistsatendencytoUNITY.

Being and Doing as Basis of Existence

TwounitsofdualityarebeingconjoinedbytheprincipleofUnification. Two possibilitiestoaccomplishthisemerge:

a) Byhalvingtheirindividualcentres.ThisformsaSTATICunionthatreferstothe

ONE, because bothsectionsnowhaveacommoncentre.

or

b) Byhalvingtheirlimitations. ThisgivesrisetoaDYNAMICunionthatproduces

ROTATION(Fig.3b). ThisdynamicalternativerelatestotheTwobecauseeach halfhasitscentre. Duetothetensionofunificationbetweenthetwocentresrotationisactivated.

Significance for the Creation

Thedarkhalfrepresentszero. Becauseofitspotencyitcanincreaseorreducethe qualitiesfromlighttodark. ItcancausethestateofBeingtoexpandtothetotalityof theprimalONE,orreduceittoaminimalexistence.

oftheEnergyofLIFE. Inlivingbeingsitisthebeatingoftheheart,thebreath,the rhythm of the digestion,ofsleepingandwaking. MutationVersusEvolution

InherentinthecreationbytheprimalONEexiststheenergyofUnification,the impulsetoreturntothesource. Thisdoesnothappenbecauseofevolution–as,at thisstagetimedoesnotexist. Rather,itiscatalysedbymutation. Thistendencycan be portrayedasalargeCircleencompassingthesmalleronesformingduality. These Circlestoucheachotheronlyatonepoint,whichissimultaneouslythecentreofthe unitingenergy. This,however,meansadoublelimitation,orinotherwordsa limitationoflimitation,whichmeansanOPENINGintheborderlines.

Thelineofrelationbetweenthetwounitsdepictstheenergyofunification.

Accordingtotheprinciplesofreflection,thelowerTriangleisthereflectedimageof theupperone.

Origin of the First Surface

ThisresultsfromtherelationshipbetweentheCircle and its radius. The equilateral TriangleconstructedwithinaCircleshowsthegeometricalinstancewherelimitation andlineofarelationshipformaunit.

ThestructureoftheTriangleresultsfromthosesectorsoftheCirclethathavethe samelengthastheirradius. Thisdivisionisexact. CircleandTrianglehaveajoint centre,asisthecaseinthefollowingfigures.

TheTriangleisthefirstplainsurfaceformedbylinesofrelationship,inaccordance withtheprincipleofDIFFERENTIATION(whichisapropertyoftheTriangle),thus givingrisetoMULTIPLICITY. Multiplicityisclearlydemonstratedbythetriangular prism,whichdivideswhitelightintosevencolours.

TheTrianglehasthreeanglesandthedifferencebetweentheseisthatthesuperior one iselevatedandthelowerangles,together,formthebase. Betweenthesethereis duality. Theplainsurfacedefinedbythesideshasthequalityof

COMMUNICATIONbecauseitisenclosedbylinesofrelationship. Thepointwhere theselinescrosshasaspecialsignificance.

TheSolitaryPointofRelationshipattheApex

ThissuperioranglethatisrelatedtounityandthesilenceoftheONE,isthatpoint wherethedualityofthelowerangles,whenunitedthroughmutationwithit,findthey canharmonisetheirconflictandtension. Thelateralsides,therefore,representthe

qualityofunification. Theupperangleiselevatedabovethetwoothersandhas objectivityandasuperiorposition. Therebyaunionofthetwoloweronesbecomes possible.

Italsomeansunityinoppositiontoduality. Thefigurenowsuggeststheprinciples: VERTICALandHORIZONTALaswellasHIEGHTandWIDTH.

IndianSymbolismoftheTriad

InHinduismonehastheconceptoftheso-calledGunas,asprimaldifferentiationof the energies of creation and attributes.

TheycomprisethespiritualSattva,thelightprincipleoftheuniverse,causeofall higherspiritualimpulses,harmonyandpurity,andbelongingtothelevelofBeing. Then,Rajas,glowingsubstance,causeofallactivityandpassion. ThirdlyTamas, visualisedasdullness,lazinessandheavinessaswellasdarkness.

The Meaning of the Sides of the Triangle

IntheTriangletheconceptsalliedtothedifferentiationofRIGHTandLEFTbecome apparent,withthehelpoflinguisticusage:leftinItalianis‘sinistra’. This correspondswiththeEnglishword‘sinister’,meaningdark,uncanny,gloomyand left.

Incontrasttherightanglehasthemeaningofclarity,light,dynamism,activityand aggression. ThiscomesclosetotheequivalentoftheIndianGunas.

Becauseoftheequallengthsofitssides,theequilateralTrianglepresentsanimageof

HARMONY.

Arising Out of Nothing

When three Triangles of the same size are put together and arranged to form a unit, the result is four identical Triangles. The fourth is in a position of INVERSION: in fact,theforthresultsfromtheunityofthethree.

Mutationofthenewariseswhereentitiesareformingunity. Anexampleofthisisthe appearanceofaMandalainFig.5,becauseofthepolesofdualityuniting.

Ifcomparedtothemooninthesky,thecrescentmoonsandtheircomplimentswithin eachCircle,formaluminous,reflecting,anddarkabsorbingsection.

InthecaseofFig.D,thedistanceZinFig.C,totheradiusofthethreeinnerCircles, mutatesintoanextensionofthecentralarea,whichapproachesevermorethe circumference.

InordertounderstandwhichqualitiesoftheprimalONEaregeneratedinthe followingfigures,itishelpfultoexaminewhichinfluencesoftheprecedingnumbers are contained therein.

TheSquareisf.i.thesumof1+3,bothoddnumbers. Thiscanbedepictedasadot in themiddleofaTriangle. Thisfigurehasthequalityofthesplittingupintopartsof pluralitiesorrelationships. ButthroughtheONE(thedot),thequalityofharmonyis broughtoutandthesplittingupisprevented.

Fromanotherpointofviewthereis2+2,meaningtwodualities. Ofthesetheupper onerelatestolightanddarkorrealityandillusion. Thelowerdualitycausesasplit betweensubjectandobjectandthereforeleadstoconflict. Italsosuggeststhe breakingupintopairsofopposites:good/bad,right/leftetc.

Thefournotonlyconsistsof2+2,butalsoof2x2,whichthereforeheightensthe negative qualities.

Qualities of the Numbers

Innumbersymbolism,theunevennumbers3,5,7,9areregardedasactiveand positive. Theevennumbers2,4,6,8arenegativeandpassive. Alltheevennumbers

consistoftwoanditsmultiples. Thenegativeevaluationiscausedbythedualitywith itstensions,aggressions,deceptionsandtendencytoattachtomatter.

TheunevennumbersaremorerelatedtotheprimalONE,becauseofthepositive qualitiesofthesenumbers:(3)harmonyandintelligence,(5)loveandart,(7) spiritualisation,(9)impulsetoreunion. Thenumbers2to4refermoretothe elements of creation, those of 5 to9totheinfluenceofthespirittherein.

9.THESQUARE,SYMBOLOFTHEEARTH

Matter is a projection of the primal ONE on the Zero and consists of empty space whereinITSenergyissporadicallymanifest. Thereforeitisaprojectionontheworld of dualityandismanifestnexttoUNITY. Matterisoriginatedwherethestaticand dynamicelementsofdualityintegrate.

TheSquarerepresentsmatterandconcreteREALITY. TIMEiscreated simultaneously. ThistimeisdualaspastandfutureandnotpresentintheNOW. The presentiseternalandrelatedtotheONE.

TheSquareanditsCorrespondencestotheEarth

TheSquareisasymboloftheearth,astheTriangleisoftheSpirit.

Thepreviouslydescribedstaticanddynamicformsofenergyarealsosubjecttothe effect of Unification.

WiththeprojectionoftheCircleintothethirddimension,thesphereemerges. The axisthereofis,theoretically,stillandisanimageofthePrimalONE. Theearthitself isacentreofGRAVITATION,which,accordingtotheprincipleofUnification, drawseverythingtoit. Accordingtothelawofduality, there is a second axis of dynamicmagneticenergythatcanbeevenahundredkilometresfromthegeocentric axis.

TheNorthSouthaxisisstable,buttheEastWestoneisdynamicallyrotating.

Concept of Directions of the Earth and their Symbolic Significance

TherelatedmanifestationsareNorthSouth:summerandwinter,andEastWest:day andnight. FromourNorthpolepositivemagnetismflowssouthward. Thepolesare relatedinacomplimentarymannerlikeYinandYangandtheSouthpoleisactually thecolder. Thegeographicalaxisisone,andstill. TheEastWestaxiscorrespondsto arotatingglobeinSPACEandTIME.

Ourconceptoftimeoriginatedfromthisdoublerotationoftheearth:arounditsown axisandaroundthesun.

TheEastremindsusofsunrise,theawakeningandascendingofthelightandgrowing temperatures. Connectedtothisisacertainsacredevaluationbecauseofthesun, alwayshavingbeenregardedasasourceofDivineLight,isassociatedwiththe

Primal ONE and Lifeitself. Contrarytothis,theWestisrelatedtoweakeningand

settingofthesourceoflight:ofdarknessanddying.

LifeisthemanifestationofthePrimalONEintomatter;deathistheabsenceofthe samewhenitiswithdrawnfrommatter.

OrientationoftheEarth

Magnetismiscreatedbytherotationoftheearth,whichalsoisthecauseof centrifugalforces. Ourconceptsofverticalandhorizontalreferrespectivelytothe centreoftheearthandthesurface. Verticalityoccursinonedirection,that to the centreoftheearthandtoitssurface. Horizontalityhasinnumerabledirections.

ThesidesoftheSquarehavetheirownsymbolismthatcorrespondstotheesoteric elements. Thebasisobviouslybelongstothesolidearth,theuppersidetothe

elementofearth. Theleftverticalsidecorrespondstowaterandthefeminine,andthe rightsidetomaleandfire. Whenconsideringtheorientalconceptoffiveelements, etherisinthecentre.

Construction:fromthemiddleofthesideofasquaredrawdiagonalABtothe

oppositecorner,fromtheirdrawanarcthatdefinesthelengthofarectangleCFwhich hasthedimensionsofaGoldenSection. ThenconstructthesquareHGwhichispart

oftheGoldenSectionHF. NowwehavetheanalogousproportionsCE:EF=EF: BF. Theseproportionscanberepeated,aslargerorsmallerrectanglesinto INFINITY.

So,here,infinityandUniquenessarecombinedandendowtheGoldenSectionwith itsSACREDstatus.

The Symbolic Meaning of the Pentagram

ThereemergesapictureoftheQUINTESSENCEwherebyallfivepointsofthe PentagramcorrespondtospiritualisationoftheprimalONE. Theunityofthe TriangleabovethetwoindicatestheprimacyoftheSpirit.

ThePentagramresultsfromtheproportionsoftheGoldenSection,givingitits fascinationandpreciousness. ThePentagramsymbolisesVenus,love,beauty, coupling,mankindandtheHolyGhost. Thetendencytowardsunificationcreatesthe powerofsexualityasalonginginallbeingsandayearningfortheLightoftheONE inKundalini.

The Sacred Centre

ThecircularvariantinFig.14showsacentralarea,which,asinthecaseofthe

OctagonandNonagon,constitutesanopeningtothepresenceoftheONE.

IfthePentagramisregardedasapresentationofthefiveelements,etherbeingthe leastdenseelementmaybefoundatthehighestpoint.

Concepts from the ‘Middle Ages’

This presentationshowstherepresentationofthereduction,respectivelyenlargement ofPentagramsintoinfinity. Theinversion,respectivelyexpansionofthefigureisin thiscasenotamirrorimage,butrepresentsareversalofthedirectionitdevelops.

Thisreferstothetendencytowardsmaterialisation(seeFig.8)inthenumbersupto fourandthedematerializationinthefiguresfivetonine.

Inthecaseofthefiguresbelongingtothenumbersfivetonine,itappearsthe graphicalpresentationoftheso-called‘Gon’(Hexagon,Pentagon,Heptagon, Octagon,Nonagon). The Ancient Gods Characterise the Points of the Hexagram

ThemaleplanetsaresituatedintheupperTriangle. AttheapexisJupiter, correspondingtotheGreekZeus. ZeusistheruleroftheGreekgods,alwaysin pursuitofthelargestandrichestandstrivingforexpansion. Marsistheactive, extrovertedanddynamicWarlord. Saturn,ruleroftime,isintroverted,hardand stubborn.

ThemothergoddessislocatedatthelowestpointintheintrovertedTriangle. Sheis mother earthandthecaringMoon. Sheissensitive,emotionalandanourishingdeity whofurthersgrowth. Venusisgoddessoflove,harmonyandbeauty. Mercuryisthe messengerofthegodsand,isneutral,unstableandintellectual.

TheSunhasalwaysrepresentedthedivineprinciple,inthiscasetheONE,

symbolisedbythecentre,light,life,vitalityandthehighestauthority. TheSunisina

directingandleadingpositionineveryhierarchy.

Therearetwopolaritiesofenergy:thatofMarsandVenusand,that of Saturn and Mercury. ThelaterpolaritybecomesevidentbecauseofMercury’srelationtothe metal;mercury,withitstotalinstabilityandreactiontotemperaturesinits environment. InthemiddleofthetwooverlappingTrianglesemergesaHexagon. TheTriangles outsideareprojectedinwardsbecauseoftheprincipleofreflection. Thisisa projectionoftheabsolute,ofthecosmicBeingontotherelativedifferentiationwithin the Hexagon.

The Hexagon consists of two sets of six lines of relationship that signifies harmony between the light and dark Triangles. The external cosmic lines do not touch each other,butthosewithintheHexagonformaunityofrelationshipstogether.

Consideringitascomposedof1+6,thereemergestheareawheretheTrianglesof duality,inthehexagram,superimposeoneachother. Thiscombinationwiththe

centralOnesuggestscreativityandinspiration,prerequisitesfortheexpressionof beauty,harmonyandstyleinlifeaswellasinart. Thisinfluencecanalsobe experiencedintheardourofsexualunion,andgiverisetotheformationofthenew, leadingtoconceptionandbirth.

Regardedasthe2+5,wefinddualityoftheTwoinfluencedbythesacredqualities ofthePentagram. Thiscausesatendencytoharmonisationbetweenthetwopoles of duality. Ontheotherhand,theeffectofdualityonthePentagramcausestension withinitandtoanenergetictensingofitssevenpoints. Themutualinfluencecauses atendencytocoincide,resultinginanintegrationofitsqualities.

NaturallytheSunwouldbeatthezenith,flankedbytheMoonandSaturn,creatinga Triangleofthemostcelestialbodies. TheremainingfourplanetsformaTrapezoid together.

WhenalineisdrawnparalleltothebaseinaunilateralTriangle,aTrapezoidappears suggestingaTriangle(byprolongingitssidesupwards). Thenumbers3+5mixthequalitiesofcommunicationandharmonyoftheTriangle withthesacred,theuniquenessandpowerofdematerializationofthePentagram.

Thisisaclearindicationofthepresenceofdeathinthebody,thetendencyofwhich hasalreadybeennotedtobepartoftheoverallmeaningoftheOctagon. This transformationhappensthroughthetendencyoftheTriangletosplit,partingspirit andmatter,whereasthesacredqualitiesofthePentagramcancausetheLightofthe inner Circle.

The phenomenon of the 4 + 4 (2 + 2 = 4 and 4 + 4 = 8) means an increase in even numbers. Thiscausesamaximumsolidification,anextremeofpolarisationandthe greatestopposition. IntheOctagramwhiteandblack,lightanddarkness,lifeand death,arejointlypresent. TheOctagramcontainsamaximumofcontradictions, increasedtotheextremebythedoublingofthefour.

OntheneutralbackgroundTrianglesappearofdifferingqualities. Intheareawhere thebackgroundisemptyandundefinedazoneappears,whichonthearchetypallevel maybedefinedasPRIMAMATERIA,andonthehumanlevelasthe UNCONSCIOUS.

Withreachingthenumbernine,inthecaseoftheprimalnumbers,theprincipleof unificationisachieved. Throughtheothernumbersthisgoalisenrichedwitha multitudeofqualities. Inordertounderstandthisdevelopmentoneshouldrealisethat allnumbersconsistofamultipleofone.

Thewholeprocessofthe‘returntotheONE’isreflectedintheevolutionoflifeon

theearth,fromthefirstlivingcells,totheappearanceofvegetation,animalsandman,

evolvingineverhigherstagesofexistence.

Inthisdevelopment,humankindhasbeenenlargingthecapacityofitsbrain,thus creatinganexpandingconsciousness. Imbeddedinsectionsofthehumanbrainthere exists,presentlyunused,capacitieswhichmayenablehigherstatesofawareness. Thishasbeenapparentinafewindividualsovertheages,and,hasbestoweduponus thefoundersofthegreatreligions,mystics,andindividualsofgeniusintheartsand sciences.

Todaytherearemoreandmorecasesofthatwhichisknownintheeastasthe awakeningofKundalini. AnAmericanmedicaldoctorinformedtheauthorthatshe hadseenathousandcasesofawakenedKundaliniinherpractice.

Atthebeginningofthisdiscourse,itisstatedthatconsciousnessisoneofthethree attributesoftheONE. Kundalini(whenhealthy)acceleratestheprocessofexpanding consciousnessandareturntotheSource.

InHindutraditionthisimpulsetoreturntotheSourceisdescribedasawhitesnake, lyingasleep,curledupinthelowestchakra. Whenthetimeisripe,sheuncurlsand risesinthespineinordertounitewithherspouse,thesupremeLordShiva,atthe crown chakra.This serpentissimultaneouslytheShakti,theall-creative half of Shiva,whoabidesaloofintheeternalblissofsuprememeditation.

Esoteric Mathematics

InordertogettogripswiththequalitiesthatmakeuptheNonagramitishelpfulto resorttotheesotericwayofcounting(Qabbalisticreduction). Thismethodconsists ofreducingallnumberslargerthantenintothoseofonedigit. Thisisachievedby addingtheindividualnumberstogetheruntilasingledigitresulti.e.652(6+5+2=

13 then1+3= 4)= 4.

Usingthismethod,theparticularityofthenumbernineisthatifitismultipliedwith anothernumbertheresultisalwaysninei.e.2106=2+1+6=9. Ifoneadds togetherthosenumbersfrom1to8,theoutcomeis36=9. Ifonemultipliesthe numbersfrom1to8witheachothertheoutcomeis40320=9.

Takensymbolically,thismeansthattheNinehasthecapacitytoabsorballsingle

Thesenumbers,withtheirspecificqualities,haveenrichednine,andtogetherwithit formaUnit. Itisbecauseof thisunity,withinthesymbolofthesingle-digitnumbers,thatninehasbecomean image of ONE.

Thezerocannotbeabsorbed,andformstogetherwiththenine(whichhasbecome one)thenumberten. Thisispossiblebecauseofthezero’spotency,whichenriches nine by tenfold.

Principally,thewholeworldofdualityisintheprocessofbecomingone,ofunifying. Creationistotalandundivided.
