Friday 12th May
Year 6 ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Auditions + Reminders for Residential
Dear Parents and Carers,
Today your child will have brought home a short section of script and the lyrics to ‘Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah’ to rehearse in preparation for our auditions for ‘Alice in Wonderland’. These auditions will take place at lunchtimes (after 12:30pm) on Tuesday 23rd May and Wednesday 24th May. Children have been grouped based on the amount of acting/singing they have said they would like to do in the play (each group has a mixture). All children will be given speaking parts, with some parts being shared in order to enable as many children as possible to participate. All children will also have to sing as part of a group. However, some will have a greater speaking role, whilst others may have solos to perform.
The audition includes acting as part of a group and singing in this group also. If children want one of the solo parts, they will be asked to sing alone as well. The script given is generic and does not mean that they will have one of these roles. Children will be asked to put forward five choices of characters they would like to be, and we will make our decisions based partly on their preferences, but largely on where we think their strengths lie.
Decisions will be made by Friday 26th May when your child will be informed of their part, as well as any costumes/props that could be useful. They will all bring a script home with their parts, and the songs they will be singing, highlighted. As you will not have access to the music, we ask that children start to learn their lines over half term, so that we come back ready to begin rehearsals.
Children are welcome to bring their audition scripts and songs on the trip next week, as they may choose to rehearse in their free time. Please also remember that they are allowed to bring some snacks (preferably sealed so that they do not go off e.g. sweets and chocolate, NO NUTS) to share with the group if they want to in the evenings, and £6 (in change) to spend in the shop. There should be no electrical equipment (this includes Fitbits).
Finally, please remember to arrive at school promptly for 8:15am on Monday (with a fully disposable packed lunch), as the coach will depart at 8:30am. Please ensure you have checked the kit list, and bring clothes for potential wet weather! We will send a text once we have arrived, but otherwise we will see you all at 3pm on Friday 19th May.
Thank you for your continued support,
S. Hulbert
