- Give a safety brief to participants at the beginning of the activity.
- Advise administration staff of departure and arrival times.
- Ensure at least one staff member has relevant first aid certification.
- Carry a mobile phone, map and first aid kit.
- Ensure mobile phones are charged before departure.
- Students are to seek permission from their supervising teacher before leaving the group (including toilet breaks).
2 / Weather conditions / Exposure to sun, wind and/or rain / M /
- Ensure participants are correctly attired (i.e. with a hat, long-sleeved shirt, or a jacket if it is cold or rainy), and include such needs on the excursion consent form.
- Have sunscreen and water available for participants, and include such needs on the excursion consent form.
3 / Soil Pits / Participant falls into pit / M /
- Students are not permitted to enter the soil pits.
4 / Fences / Injury from barbed wire and other sharp edges / M /
- Students are to use gates when moving from one paddock to the next.
- Climbing through fences should only be undertaken at the permission of the landholder in the presence of Northern Tablelands Local Land Services staff.

- Ensure students are aware they are not to purposely enter a body of water.
- Witnesses to any incidents are to report to the nearest Northern Tablelands Local Land Services representative immediately.
6 / Dangerous fauna / Snakes and other wildlife / M /
- Warn children to watch where they walk. If a snake is sighted, they are to stop walking and inform a teacher or Northern Tablelands Local Land Services staff member.

- Teachers are to plan for any medical conditions within their student groups, and are to report such conditions to the Northern Tablelands Local Land Services event organisers.
- Teachers are to make request for any specialised equipment / facilities prior to the field day.
