THE POLISH THAT SHINES BRIGHT
A new worker’s first experience in painting a car held many surprises for him. One of those took place after the car’s fresh coat of new paint was totally dry. The novice looked with excitement on the finished product, only to see his employer come by and begin to sand the paint with sandpaper. The apprentice was shocked, and confused at what the other man was doing to the finish, so he began to complain. But his employer continued to sand. After he had sanded the entire car he took out a buffer and, using a special compound, began to buff the sanded car. The results left the apprentice shocked. For, you see, the sanding made all the paint even and clean, and the buffing brought out a new shine, so bright that when compared to the previous shine it hardly looked the same color. What appeared to be destroying the paint was in fact bringing out its deepest shine.
In Hebrews 12:10-11 we read “For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Inspired by God the writer of Hebrews tells us that God’s discipline may not be pleasant, but its aim is to brighten us that is polish us and reveal the beauty and shine of our righteousness.
