Malachi 3 19-20a/2 Thessalonians 3:7—12/Luke 21:5-19
“You know how one must imitate us… in toil and drudgery, night and day, we worked so as not to burden any of you… We wanted to present ourselves as a model for you so that you might imitate us.” “I myself will give you a wisdom in speaking…”
Athletes, entertainers and politicians share special spotlights. Their every move, word or accomplishment is cited for others. All too often they fall or fail as role models. Still, others offer great example in caring, reaching out to those who are ill or in need, supporting worthy causes.
St. Paul assumed his role without hesitation or shame. He called his first communities to imitate him in his commitment to Jesus Christ. He did not hesitate to say that it was not all peaches and cream. His unique call was clearer than the Lord’s subtle invitation for us to follow Him.
‘Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.’ This adage should be directed to the good that others do, not to those which reflect a fall from grace. The ‘do as I say, not as I do’ raises a flag for followers. How often in the gospel Jesus told us to be careful. In observing His norms and not creating scandal. Did He not tell us to fast, pray and sacrifice privately, as our heavenly Father knows in secret what we do?

Covenant House’s 20th Annual Candlelight VigilOn November 16, 2010 Covenant House International, the largest privately-funded agency in the Americas that provides food, shelter, immediate crisis care, and an array of other important services to homeless, throwaway, and runaway kids, will hold its 20th Annual Candlelight Vigil.
The Vigil will transform Times Square into a beacon of hope and solidarity for all homeless youth. Covenant House kids and hundreds of their advocates will march from Covenant House’s New York shelter to Times Square and send a simultaneous message in support of thousands of homeless youth across the U.S. who are just trying to survive on their own, one night at a time.

Next weekend we participate in the special collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. For 40 years, this initiative of the Catholic Church has worked to create lasting solutions to the problem of poverty through real community change. The Campaign has funded thousands of projects nationally and more than 100 in the Archdiocese of New York that have empowered people to work together to solve community problems, create jobs, and build affordable housing. The Campaign gives us an opportunity to respond to the Gospel’s call to solidarity with the poor. Please give generously.
Cathedral of St Patrick Young Adults (a young adult apostolate for those in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s) present the 7th Annual Dear Santa Project: OperationCorpus ChristiSchool on December 2, 2010 at the Cathedral Parish House, 14 East 51st Street between Madison and 5th Avenuesat 6:30pm-8:30pm. It is that time of year where answer the Dear Santa letters from the Catholic school students. This year we have chosen Corpus ChristiSchool as our beneficiary. How timely today’s Gospel is, two days before the anniversary of the six Jesuits who were killed in El Salvador for their testimony to the truth of justice for the poor and oppressed! Jesus forewarned: “Some of you will be put to death; you will be hated by all for my name’s sake.” But he also promised “Not a hair on your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your lives.” Do we have the faith and courage to risk it all for Him? Let us pray to the Jesuit martyrs that our answer is yes.

Catholic Felowship of NYC- Volunteer Opportunity
During this season of Thanksgiving let's give to those who are less fortunate. We are looking for volunteers to help assemble food baskets and then distribute these baskets to the poor on Saturday November 20th starting at 9am. If anyone would like to bring donations on the day for the food baskets we could use:
- Frozen Turkeys
- Stuffing mix
- Canned or fresh vegetables
- Cans or jars of gravy or packets of gravy mix
- Instant mashed potatoes
- Cranberry sauce
- Canned pumpkin or pumpkin pie filling
