IMPORTANT NOTES.
To be considered by the Colleges and Universities Sports Association of Ireland (CUSAI) to participate at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia (6th – 17th July 2013) Irish student athletes must –
1. Be eligible to partake in a FISU World University Games meaning
1.1 They must meet FISU’s regulations with regard to eligibility – these regulations are listed in a separate section below.
1.2 They must meet CUSAI’s regulations with regard to eligibility – these regulations are listed in a separate section below.
2. FULLY complete (by COMPUTER in MS Word format) a Student Athlete Nomination Form for their sport (see subsequent pages) and submit via email to ;
3. Print off and sign a hardcopy of the completed Student Athlete Nomination Form and have the relevant section signed and stamped by the Sports Officer/Athletic Union President of their university / college / institute.
4. FULLY complete (in BLOCK CAPITALS) “Section 1” of a hardcopy of the FISU Certificate of Academic Eligibility.
5. Have their university / college / institute Registrar’s Office complete, sign and stamp “Section 2” of the same hardcopy of the FISU Certificate of Academic Eligibility.
6. Leave “Section 3” of the same hardcopy of the FISU Certificate of Academic Eligibility BLANK for completion by the CUSAI office.
7. Return the signed and stamped hardcopy of the Student Athlete Nomination Form and the FISU Certificate of Academic Eligibility, along with 2 (two) passport sized photos and a photocopy of the main / photo page of their passport to the CUSAI office.
OTHER NOTES.
1. Nominations shall NOT be accepted by fax.
2. Nominations received after the relevant sport’s closing date shall NOT be accepted.
3. Incomplete nominations may be returned.
4. Submitting a nomination to CUSAI for consideration does not guarantee that a student athlete shall be ratified to compete at the Games.
5. CUSAI shall consider all complete nominations received from eligible Irish student athletes. CUSAI shall ratify only those deemed suitably qualified to compete at the Games. CUSAI’s decision on all ratification issues is final.
6. The CUSAI office shall subsequently notify the appointed Team Manager / Head Coach of those ratified (and not ratified) to compete.
7. Each competitor ratified by CUSAI to participate at the Games may be asked to make a personal contribution (amount to be determined) towards the cost of his or her participation. This amount MUST be paid in full to CUSAI BEFORE departure to the competition.

9. Please retain copies of all forms for your own reference.
Students my appeal any decision in relation to their eligibility to the Eligibility Working Group. In order to do this a written appeal must be
received by the CUSAI Office within one week of the original decision.

FISU ELIGIBILITY REGULATIONS
5.2 Participation.
5.2.1 Only the following may participate as competitors in a FISU Games:
(a) students who are officially registered for and pursuing a full-time course of study at a university or similar institute whose status as a university is recognised by the appropriate national academic authority of their country;
(b) former students of the institutions mentioned in (a) who have obtained their academic degree or diploma in the year preceding the event.
5.2.3 All competitors must satisfy the following conditions:
(a) be a national of the country they represent;
(b) be at least 17 and less that 28 years of age on January 1st in the year of the event.
CUSAI ELIGIBILITY REGULATIONS
CUSAI currently applies the following regulations (in addition to the FISU regulations) when selecting representative teams and individuals to participate in FISU competitions:
(1) A student must be fully registered and hold a student card for the institution with which they are internally registered.
(2) Students must be a national of the country they represent.
(3) Students must be at least 17 years and less than 28 years of age on January 1st in the year of the event.
(4) Students must be pursuing a course of study that is equivalent to 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits per annum in Ireland or 120 UK Academic credits per annum in Northern Ireland or that leads to an award ranked at a minimum of Level 6 on the NQAI Framework (National Qualification Authority of Ireland).
(5) The academic year shall be defined as October to September. Students in any institution with an academic calendar not running concurrently with this will be eligible for the academic year during which they enter and any subsequent academic years depending on the E.C.T.S. value of their course.
(6) Students will be eligible for competition under the year of grace rule if they have obtained their academic qualification in the year (calendar year) preceding the event.
