A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND COLONEL ANNA J. AMOS, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, FOR TWENTYFIVE YEARS OF GROUNDBREAKING SERVICE WITH THE STATE TRANSPORT POLICE, A DIVISION OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, AND TO WISH HER SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful for the twentyfive years of dedicated and exemplary service that Colonel Anna J. Amos has given to the State Transport Police (STP); and
Whereas, Charleston native and mother of two fine children, Colonel Amos began an auspicious career in law enforcement as the first female hired in Commercial Vehicle Safety as a regulatory inspector and later as a safety inspector, where she advanced to the rank of lieutenant; and
Whereas, she was the first African-American female to head a state law enforcement division in South Carolina, and as the first female captain at the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, she served as the Lower State Regional Commander for Field Enforcement from 1996 to 1999; and
Whereas, since November 2000, she has commanded a statewide force of uniformed and civilian personnel, charged with enforcing state and federal commercial motor vehicle laws, and has managed its fourteen million dollar budget; and
Whereas, her nationally recognized contributions to STP over the years include establishing STP’s Canine Unit, facilitating upgrades to existing weigh stations, equipping all STP officers with laptop computers and wireless communication capability, and training STP officers in hazardous materials; and
Whereas, she serves as vicechair of the board of directors of the International Registration Plan, Incorporated, and as a Council Steward for United Way’s Food, Shelter, Safety and Transportation Committee, and is an active member of the Bible Way Church of Atlas Road; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are deeply grateful for Colonel Anna J. Amos’ extensive efforts in serving and protecting South Carolina’s citizens. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend Colonel Anna J. Amos, upon the occasion of her retirement, for twentyfive years of service with the State Transport Police, a division of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, and wish her success and happiness in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Colonel Anna J. Amos.
