WALK WITH NIGEL BROWN RSPB CONWY - Meet at the Visitor Centre at RSPB Conwy SH797773 at 1.30pm (note there is a charge for non-members of RSPB £5 for adults, £2.50 for children) from where we will explore this wildlife rich coastal reserve with its waders and wildfowl using the footpaths and bird hides which allow access to about 10 hectares of lagoons, grasslands, scrub and saltmarsh. Hopefully as dusk draws near we may see starlings coming into roost.

Saturday 10th February, 1.30pm RSPB Conwy Cost: Normal RSPB admission fee applies (including free entry for RSPB members). Donations to the Friends will be welcome.

BOTANICAL ART CLASS - Come along every third Saturday of the month for some expert guidance from our artist in residence Doreen Hamilton. Beginners welcome

TREBORTH BOTANICAL SEMINAR - Vera Fitzsimmons-Thoss, Director Vera Bluebell limited. Applied bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) ecology: Considerations for the re-establishment of bluebell populations. In recent decades, loss of habitat and hybridisation have resulted in the native bluebell’s protected status indicating that they are now vulnerable and near-threatened.

JOINT WALK WITH MENAI HERITAGE - Explore the history of the famous bridges and Treborth Botanic Garden. Led by a guide from Menai Heritage and Dr Shaun Russell (Director, Treborth Botanic Garden). Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served in the Treborth Lab after the walk.

Saturday 17th March, 9.30 am to 11.30 approx. Meet outside Treborth Lab (main Treborth building).

Cost: £6 (FTBG and Menai Heritage will share the income; Menai Heritage will also offer a voucher for reduced price entry to the Museum which opens for the season on 28 March.)

TREBORTH BOTANICAL SEMINAR – Len Beer Memorial Lecture. Adam Frost ‘A life in Gardens’. Gardeners’ World presenter and Chelsea Gold Medallist, Adam Frost will be talking about working with the late Geoff Hamilton, his journey to Chelsea and his plans for his new Garden School. Refreshments will be served.

SPRING PLANT SALE - Indoor plants, perennials, trees, shrubs, bulbs, vegetable and salad seedlings for sale. Fresh local produce (including a cake stall) will be on sale and we will be serving refreshments, including tea, coffee and cakes throughout the morning.

Friends of Treborth Botanic Garden 21st Anniversary Lunch - Combine a visit to the hidden gardens of Plas Cadnant with lunch to celebrate 21 years of the Friends. We hope plenty of you will come to this special event to talk about what we have achieved in the past 21 years and reminisce about the good – and occasionally not so good - times!

The Big Moss Challenge. To mark the Welsh Assembly’s commitment to preserving mosses, Dr Shaun Russell, the Director of Treborth, is giving a seminar as part of the botanical series.

TREBORTH BOTANICAL SEMINAR - Dr Shaun Russell. Why mosses matter: conservation of the miniature forests. This talk will highlight the often quirky and surprising ways in which mosses have been useful to humans over the centuries, and their fundamental role in the “economy of nature”.

Coach Trip to Adlington Hall, Near Macclesfield - We have arranged a private visit for the Friends and Welsh Historic Gardens Trust to Adlington Hall and Gardens. The Hall developed around The Great Hall completed in 1505 and has many fine features including moulded and carved roof arches. The gardens, set in the Hall’s 2000 acres, include a Rose Garden, Flower Parterre and the Father Tiber Garden. The trip includes two guided tours, one of the Hall and the other led by the head gardener around the gardens.

Wednesday 2nd May, departing Morrisons (Caernarfon) 8.15am, Treborth 8.30am. There is no café so please bring packed lunch. Cost: £30, booking form enclosed
