The start of the season has gone very well for us this year, we started grooming before Xmas and have continued running three groomers steady right into January. We were very fortunate to have early snow cover to allow us to get started early and even though we made it thru the warm up at Xmas, steady riding has been our blessing. Corser Brook Road is open for the first time in several years and Four Mile Brook and Squeeze hole are back in the system after being used for logging the last couple of years. The ability to have these trails open gives riders much more flexibility to ride into Errol without having to use the same trails which on busy winter weekends means avoiding bumpy trails.
At the club meeting on January 2nd several scheduling issues were worked out with regards to our events for the winter here is the schedule as of the writing of this article:
Northwood Vintage Race Feb 7th
Umbagog Club Poker Run Feb 14th
Errol Vintage Race Feb 21st
Umbagog Annual Steak Feed March 7th
Pittsburg Vintage Race March 14th
A major focus this year will be on fundraising to pay off the loan on our newest groomer early so that we can add another groomer toour fleet for the 2015-2016 season. By constantly updating our groomers we hope to avoid costly and lengthy downtime during the season which means the trails will be groomed more frequently during the week and weekends. We realize it’s difficult to be able to find the time to volunteer for the club in our busy lives, but it is amazing how just a couple of extra people at an event makes everything go so much smoother. Besides, we all like meeting new club members and hearing about different riding experiences.
This winter the groomer operators and the maintenance crews will have their normal workload which we all appreciate! The dedication they show, starting with Lorraine, our Trail Master and groomer extraordinaire, Dan and Chris, her able groomer operators to Bobby our groomer maintenance guru and club board member, Pete our President, Bernie and all the rest. This winter two guys really helped above and beyond. Dave and Rick worked to install the new club house furnace on their own time. This was a major job and badly needed for the last couple of years. Dave and Rick rose up to the challenge and got it done. Thanks guys for all you did! To everyone I have forgotten to mention but are active and helpful to keeping the Umbagog Snowmobile Association thriving, I hope you know we appreciate your involvement.
Well enough writing for now time to get out and ride we hope everyone has a safe and long riding season this year.
