CreatingNewKnowledgeintheClassroom

“CreatingNewKnowledgeintheClassroom”isthethemeoftheACBSPConference2016inAtlanta,Georgia,June17-­‐20,2016. Thisisalsothethemeforourregionalmeeting,whichisbeingheldOctober1–3,2015,inMyrtleBeach,SouthCarolina,andhostedbyYorkTechnicalCollege.

In2008,forthefirsttime,regionsthatadoptedthethemefortheAnnualConferenceattheirregionalconferencetheyearpriorwereprovidedaslotinthateducationaltracksetasideforacategorytitled“BestoftheRegions”. Tworegionsparticipatedthatfirstyear. Participationhasgrownsothatarecordnineregionswererepresentedwithpresentationsatthe2015ConferenceinPhiladelphia. Region3isoneofthoseregionsthatparticipatedin2015,withapresentationbyAliquippaAllenfromthe UniversityofWestAlabamawhenthethemewasPartneringwithBusinessforStudentSuccess.Thetitleofhis/herpresentationwas“We’veHeardtheCall,CraftedtheResponse,andMadetheConnectionBetweentheClassroom,Business,andSocialMedia.”

Asanewfeatureinitiatedin2012,oneoftheregionsparticipatingintheBestoftheRegionsprogramattheAnnualConferenceishonoredwithrecognitionoftheInternationalBestofRegionsExcellenceAward. ModeledtosomeextentontheTeachingExcellenceAward,apanelofjudgesattheconferencejudgetheseBestoftheRegionspresentationsonFridayandSaturdayusingarubric,anddeterminethebestofthepresentations. ThehonoreeisannouncedduringtheSalutetoRegionsLuncheononSundayandpresentedwithacrystalawardanda$500checkinrecognitionofthisachievement.

WeinviteyoutorespondtothisCallforPresentationsforourregioninanticipationthatyourpresentationmaybeselectedtobegivenattheregionalconference. AllpresentationsgivenattheRegion3conferencewillbeevaluatedbytheregion’sofficers,andonewillbeselectedforpresentationatthe2016ACBSPConferenceasa“BestoftheRegions”presentation. TheSoutheasternCouncilofBusinessSchoolsandPrograms(Region3)iscomposedofthefollowinggeographicarea: Alabama,Florida,Georgia,Kentucky,Mississippi,NorthCarolina,SouthCarolina,Tennessee,andtheBritishOverseasTerritoryofBermuda.The2015conferenceforourregionwillbeheldinMyrtleBeach,SouthCarolina,hostedbyYorkTechnicalCollege. Thedatesofthemeetingare

October1–3,2015. LodgingwillbeprovidedatHiltonMyrtleBeachResortatagrouprateof$109forthefirst70toreserve;$119fortheremaining20rooms. Use the code BSP to reserve a room.Registrationfeeswillbe$150andwillincludeattendanceatallbusinessmeetings,tours,andpresentationsplusbreakfast(Friday/Saturday),lunch(Friday),keynotedinner(Friday),andsnacks/water/coffeeonFriday. AllpresentersselectedwillberesponsibleforpaymentofallcoststoattendtheRegion3conference,includingtheregistrationfee.

•SubmissionsmustbereceivednolaterthanAugust30,2015September 10,usingtheResponseFormincludedinthisCallforPresentations. Furtherinstructionsforsubmissionareincludedontheform.

•Allpresentationswillbereviewedbyacommitteeofmembersresponsiblefororganizingourregional conference.

•Concurrentsessionswillbe45minutesinlengthwith5minutesofintroductions. Pleaseallowabout5-­‐10minutesforquestionsanddiscussion,givingatotalof30-­‐35minutesforpresentationofcontent.

•YoumaysubmitmultipleresponsestothisCallforPresentations.YoumayalsosubmitpresentationproposalstomorethanoneregionofACBSP.

•Membersaregivenapreferenceinselection,butnon-­‐membersofACBSPmaysubmitaresponsetothisCallforPresentations.

•Presentationssubmittedbypersonsnotaffiliatedwithaninstitutionwillbeespeciallyvaluableifpairedwithsomeonefromamembercampus.

•YouwillreceivenotificationconcerningyoursubmissionbySeptember15,2015.

ThethemeisCreatingNewKnowledgeintheClassroom

Manyeducationalinstitutionscontinuetotransfertraditionaltheoriesandconceptsthatmaynotbeasrelevantorhavenegativeinfluencesintherealworld(Ghoshal,2005).Aswemoveintothegloballandscape,theprocessofcontinuousimprovementtowardeducationalexcellencecanalsoinitiatethecreationofnewknowledge.Thisfocustakesrealworldexperiencesfromourstudentsandintegratestheminouracademicrigorwherenewtheoriesandconceptscanbecreated.Fromthere,facultycanbegintodevelopthesetheoriesthatalignwiththecurrentandfutureneedsofthebusinessenvironment.Asonepathforgreaterinnovation,thethemecallsforasynthesisofexperiencesandknowledgewithintheclassroomwhileprovidingintegrationandcreationofnewknowledge.Let'sfindthenewtheorythat'llchangetheworldwithinasimpleaknowledgecreationprocess.

SelectionforParticipationintheACBSPConference2016

Arubricisusedtoevaluateallpresentations.IfyourpresentationisselectedasthebestfromRegion3,youwillbeinvitedtogivethepresentationaspartoftheeducationaltrackduringtheACBSPConference2016.

TheACBSPConference2016willbeheldonJune17-­‐20,2016inAtlanta,Georgia. LodgingwillbeatprovidedattheAtlantaMarriottMarquisatagrouprateofapproximately$169. Registrationfeeswillbe

approximately $550. The presentersselected willbe responsible forpaymentofall costs. Presentersreceive a 50% discounton the registration fee. Formore information on the ACBSP Conference 2016,pleasechecktheACBSPWebsite,

TheregionofficersandothersevaluatingthequalityofeachpresentationintheirregionreservetherightnottorecommendanypresentationforparticipationintheACBSPConference2016. TheJournalwelcomeauthorstosubmittheiroriginalresearchpapers,casestudies,conferencereports,managementreports,bookreviews,andcommentariesondevelopmentsintheliterature,practice,andexcellenceinbusinesseducation,forreviewandconsiderationforpublication. Whilethiscanbeonavarietyoftopics,aspecialpriorityfortheinauguralissueoftheTJBisthethemefortheACBSPConference2016,CreatingNewKnowledgeintheClassroom.Yourscholarlycontributioncanbelinkedtothetopicandfocusofyour presentation.
