HIGH PROFILE MANAGEMENT “GURU” & AUTHOR ARRESTED FOR DUPING AN UK BASED NRI LADY OF RS.10.50 LAC FOR SELLING HER A HYPOTHECATED HIGH-END CAR CLAIMING IT TO BE LOAN FREE.
HE CLAIMS HIMSELF TO BE HONOURED BY BRITISH GOVERNMENT AS A “LORD” FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICES IN EDUCATION.
THERE ARE HUGE OUTSTANDING LOANS FROM SEVERAL BANKS AGAINST THE ACCUSED.
INTRODUCTION:-
Crime Branch has arrested a high profile cheat namely Lord Mukul Paul Taneja (50 years) s/o Late Arjun Kumar Taneja r/o B-20, Mayfair Garden, August Kranti Marg, Hauz Khas, New Delhi who duped innocent people by selling high-end hypothecated cars without getting NOC of concerned RTO office. The accused had got fraudulently registered several luxurious cars in RTO/Dehradun office without making the entry of “Hire Purchase Loan” on their Registration Certificates which were already financed by the banks. In this way, the accused had cheated an UK based NRI lady to whom, he had sold a Renault Duster car for Rs.10.50 lac claiming as free from any hypothecation whereas the same was financed by Punjab National Bank, Anand Niketan, New Delhi. The accused had fraudulently procured its RC without mention of “the HP Loan” on it.
BACKGROUND:-
One UK based NRI Ms. Nisha Karavadra had filed a complaint with Crime Branch of Delhi Police that she has been cheated by a person namely Mukul Paul Taneja to the tune of Rs. 10.50 lac by fraudulently selling a Renault Duster SUV which was having VIP Number as UK-07-AX-0999 and the same was financed by Punjab National bank. The accused had assured the victim that there was no outstanding loan against the car. The victim reported that she came in contact with the accused after seeing an advertisement in a daily newspaper and she agreed to purchase the said car after the assurance given by the accused that the registration certificate would be transferred in her name within a week. The accused claimed himself as a reputed person of the society and also that he had been honoured as “Lord” by the British Government. After purchasing the car, the victim asked the accused for providing RC after obtaining from RTO Dehradun as promised but the accused Mukul Paul Taneja threatened her of dire consequences in view of his very high political connections in India.
Thereafter, the victim made enquiries from the concerned RTO office at Dehradun and it was revealed that there was a bank loan of Rs. 9.99 lac against the said vehicle from PNB, Anand Niketan, New Delhi and its ownership can not be transferred in her name. After this she filed a complaint through her local MP in England.
The Punjab National Bank has also filed a complaint against the accused for criminal breach of trust for not returning the loan of Rs. 9.99 lac.
TEAM & OPERATION:-
On receipt the complaint, a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust was registered and a core team of South Western Range, Crime Branch comprising of SIs Vinay Tyagi, Atul Tyagi, HCs Jugnu Tyagi, Rajkumar, Naresh Pal, Sanjeev, Cts Vipin and Rajeev Sahrawat was constituted under the supervision of ACP Hoshiyar Singh to identify and nab the culprit. During the course of investigation, a unique modus operandi came to light and it was revealed that accused Mukul Paul Taneja belongs to high society and he is residing at Mayfair Garden, Hauz Khas, New Delhi. On 01.05.2014, the police team apprehended him from Munirka Market area and arrested him in the case after a detailed interrogation.
DISCLOSURE & PROFILE:-
The accused Mukul Paul Taneja (50 years) disclosed that he had been decorated by awarding him the degree of ‘Lord’ by the British Government for his distinguished services for the country in the field of education and he tried to influence the interrogating team that he has very high political connections and he had never committed any crime and that he is a very rich person as well as he is a big tycoon. During his detailed interrogation, it was revealed that the accused Mukul Paul Taneja was born in a wealthy and reputed family of Delhi. His father hold a high position in a reputed private firm while his mother had retired as Director, AIIMS in the year 1989.
He completed his studies upto 12th standard from Modern School, Vasant Vihar in the year 1983 and after that he did his BBA in Marketing from college of Vocational Studies, Sheikh Sarai, New Delhi which was affiliated to Delhi University in the year 1987. The accused has further claimed that since he was an excellent student during his college days, he was granted scholarship for studying all over the world and he went to UK for higher studies and completed his MBA from Cardiff Business School, London, UK in the year 1989 and thereafter he did his LLM in the year 1992.
After that he came back to India and worked with Jai Prakash Group of Industries from the year 1992 to 1995. In the year 1996, he started his own business of export of garments in the name and style of MGA exports and in the year 1998, he got married in a rich family of Dholpur, Rajasthan.
The accused Mukul Paul Taneja further disclosed that after marriage in the year 1998, he started his business of investment in Hotels & Restaurants with J&K Development Corporation and due to big losses in his business; he closed this business in the year 2001. He also claims that he had received threats from terrorist outfit JKLF.
Thereafter, the accused started playing in Commodities Trading and opened his two separate offices in the areas of Hauz Khas, New Delhi and UK and invested huge money in this business but he again suffered huge losses this time also.
The accused Mukul Paul Taneja has also claimed that he has produced and financed several Bollywood movies including Art films and he was in contact with several Bollywood celebrities for future projects. But unfortunately, all the movies financed by him flopped and he suffered huge losses in this business.
The accused has further claimed that he was an excellent student during studies in UK. He further revealed that he has been regularly giving lectures on MBA subjects in various reputed schools, colleges and universities in India & UK. He has also claimed to have authored the following three books: -
1. Rural Marketing and Integrated Approach.
2. Vedanta Education True Life.
3. Analytical Approach to Management in Developing Countries.
The father of the accused Mukul Paul Taneja had expired in the year 1989 and apart from his old aged mother and wife, he has 2 sons aged about 15 and 13 years. He used to brag in the society that he has very close connections with highly placed politicians of India and had to maintain his lifestyle and status accordingly. But he got bankrupt due to heavy losses in his businesses and lavish lifestyle; hence, he started cheating the innocent people by luring them in after giving advertisements in daily newspapers with attractive offers and discounts, interested in buying only high-end cars.
The accused Mukul Paul Taneja has several luxurious cars at his house in order to brag and create his influence in the society and presently, he has one Audi-A6, one Swift Dzire, one Suzuki Kizashi, one Renault Duster, one Volkswagen Polo and one Ford EcoSport car. During investigation, it was revealed that most of these cars are financed by different banks and have been got registered by the accused in his name. Apart from this, presently, he has outstanding loans from different banks of India against these cars and he has a loan of Rs.70 lac on his residential bungalow.
The investigation of the case is in progress and the accomplices of the accused are being identified.

11 kg Ivory Recovered: 2 persons arrested
With the arrest of Jaspal Singh s/o Gurcharan Singh r/o B-69Z DDA Flats, Jahangirpuri, Delhi and Mahender Kumar s/o Late Sh. Moolchand r/o AC-1/46-A, Shalimar Bagh, Delhi, the local police of PS Kotwali, has busted a gang of Wild Life Smugglers
Information :-
On 03/05/2014, a secret information was received to SI G N Tiwari at Police Station Kotwali that two persons would come near Red Fort for selling pieces of Ivory Tusk. SI G N Tiwari shared this information with SHO/Kotwali who informed the Wildlife Department.
Incident :-
A team comprising of SI G N Tiwari, ASI Yogender, Ct. Vipin No. 1665/N and Ct. Amit Bhati No. 868/N was constituted under the supervision of Inspr. Pramod Gupta, SHO/Kotwali and the overall supervision of Sh. Sagar Singh Kalsi, ACP/Kotwali. The said team, along with Insp. R R Meena and Insp. V. Bharti Dasan of Wildlife Department, laid a trap near Upper Subhash Marg, Parade Ground Corner, in area of PS Kotwali. At 3:30 PM, One Jaspal Singh s/o Sh. Gurcharan Singh, having a Jute bag, was apprehended on the pointing out of the secret informer, by the raiding party and a piece of Ivory tusk was recovered from his possession. After checking the piece of Ivory Insp. R. R. Meena and Insp. V. Bharti Dasan informed that this piece of Ivory is a contravention of schedule-I of Wild Life Protection Act 1972. On enquiry, Jaspal Singh informed that his accomplice Mahender Kumar s/o Late Sh. Moolchand is sitting in a car near Sunhari Masjid, Nishad Raj Marg, and there are 3 pieces of Ivory in his possession. So the raid was also conducted there and Mahender Kumar was found sitting in a Xylo car - DL 4C NB 7746 with three pieces of Ivory tusk, which come under the schedule-I of Wild Life Protection Act, 1972. Both of them could not produce any license regarding the piece of Ivory. To this effect, a case vide FIR No. 352/14 u/s 9/39/49/49(B)(1)/51 of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 was registered at PS Kotwali and investigation is in progress.
Interrogation :-
The team interrogated both the accused persons. During sustained interrogation accused Jaspal Singh confessed that he knows Mahender Kumar who has given the piece of Ivory to him, for sale. Mahender Kumar confessed that these pieces of Ivory were given to him, some 2 months ago, by the owner of a transport company, Tri Nagar, Delhi, who has got the said Ivory from Assam. They confessed that, since then, they are trying to sell this material at area around Red Fort to the passerby/ foreign tourists. The approximate price of this Ivory in international markets is estimated to be Rs 70-75 lakhs.

- 4 Pieces of Ivory totaling 11.190 Kg
- One Piece of Ivory Length / Height 13 inches and weight 2.390 Kg.
- One Piece of Ivory Length / Height 14 inches and weight 2.102 Kg.
