CLASS CONTENT: Driver Education is the state required course that needs to be completed before a student can take the written test for the driver’s permit issued at 15 ½ years of age. This course will cover rules of the road, driving safety skills, right-of-way regulations in adherence to the California Department of Motor Vehicle codes. Successful completion of this course will satisfied the “Driver Education” requirement for California Instruction Permit. Curriculums for “Driver Training” (behind-the-wheel) requirements are not part ofthe course work for this class.

This one semester course will focus on the practical learning of how to be a safe driver and how to be prepared for today’s driving challenges. You will learn topics ranging from the traffic rules to how to develop good habits for defensive driving. Our learning activities will consist of traditional methods along with variety of modes of learning such as video sessions, field observations, and group activities.

CLASS OBJECTIVES & SCOPE: Through the course work of this class, you will be eligible to attain the California instruction permit. The objectives of this course are to prepare you to meet the state standards and requirements, to be a responsible driver, and to be well trained with effective defensive driving skills. In addition, this course will address key components in driving attitudes, visual skills, trip preparations, and vehicle maintenance.

Parental involvement is a vital part of this course’ learning activities. During your progress of becoming a responsible driver, you will reach out to your parents or guardians to assist you with real world learning experiences. These are opportunities for you to learn from your family member’s driving experiences as well as sharing your knowledge in the latest of driver’s education with your family members.

  • Adhere to school and district policy;electronics rules will be strictly enforced.
  • Come to class prepared everyday with(1) 3 ring binder, (2) note paper, (3) pen, pencil highlighters.
  • Do not leave the classroom for any reason other than emergencies.
  • Do not do anything that shows a lack of respect to others.
  • You will receive a minimum consequence of after class detention for violating class rules.

ATTENDANCE: Work or examination missed due to truancyor unexcused absence cannot be made up. Work due or examination on the day of an excused absence must be turned in on the day absentee’s return to school. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what work was missed on the day of your excused absence. * Subscribe to the class website above, you will be notified when new assignments are posted.

GRADE DETERMINIATION: Collision reports, Class assignments, DMV worksheet, exams, Homework, Participation, Photo Portfolio Project, Question of the Day, Video Notes and Weekly Reflections.GRADING SCALE: A = 90% or higher, B = 80% or higher, C = 70% or higher, D = 60% or higher.

To receive your permission slip for the DMV written test, you cannot have a final grade below a “C-“ or have a final citizenship grade of “unsatisfactory”.

Parent/Guardian Consent for Video Content: As a learning tool for this course, your son/daughter will be viewing automobile collision videos that will contain graphic images of injuries and fatalities. In addition, inappropriate language might be included in the audio track. By signing the approval below, I give permission for my son/daughter to view these videos.
