Job Title:Healthy Voices Co-ordinator
Reporting to:Deputy Chief Executive
Location:Foundation House,Salford
Salary:£18,000
Hours:Full Time - 35 hours
Contract Length:Initially until June 2013
Introduction
Healthy Voices aims to bridge the gap between health services and potential service users by developing a communication link between all parties. The project aims to raise awareness of health related issues and to provide support and information to encourage engagement in services that will improve physical and mental health for Salford residents.
Main duties and responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- To increase service user engagement in health related services, focusing upon recruitment of those individuals who have historically resistedhealth services and help shape how those services can be best meet their needs.
- To provide a wide range of health awareness sessions to young people, collaborating with other internal colleagues and external colleagues
- To recruit volunteer mentors and health champions and to train them for their roles
- To match mentors and champions with service users and championing opportunities
- To undertake ‘youth proofing’ exercises and other activities which enable young people to feedback and to influence health services
- To collate and provide health awareness information
- To gain feedback from service users and service providers to support the project
- To collaborate closely with the Healthy Voices Co-ordinator within the Foundation’s Adult Services Team
- To co-facilitate events aimed at bringing together health professionals and service users
- To assist in the promotion of the project to other third sector health providers and their service users
- To assist the Adult Services Co-ordinator and Deputy Chief Executive in collating information to be shared with Commissioners and NHS senior managers
- To collate the necessary data required to produce management information reports for the project
- Any other duties as reasonably required by the Foundation Management Team
Person Specification
Knowledge
- Understanding of the issues and challenges facing young people
- Foundational knowledge of young people’s health needs and health services
- An understanding of Child Protection, Equal Opportunities and anti discriminatory practices
- Foundational awareness of services for young people and all-age services young people can access
Experience
- Experience of working with young people - particularly in an educational, youth work or youth support setting
- Managing projects to deadlines
- Working to personal targets and deadlines
- Experience of working in education/voluntary/community settings
- Experience in the use of IT software and of Microsoft Office
Skills
- Good written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to relate well to young people from a wide range of backgrounds, engage them in activities which support their development and relate sensitively and confidentially their needs
- Ability to communicate with young people, parents/ carers and professionals
- Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work to targets
- An empathetic approach
Special Conditions
- This post is subject to an enhanced-level CRB check
- The post-holder must hold a full driving licence and have a car available to be used for business purposes
- Successful candidates will be expected to work occasional evenings and weekends, for which time will be given back in lieu
