Editorial - Welcome

Welcome to the first issue of The Gazette, your new village magazine.

It is hoped to produce the magazine quarterly with articles contributed by the local organisations listed on the back page, as well as cookery recipes, computer tips, and letters from you. It won’t be affiliated to any particular organisation to allow a broad focus on all topics affecting our community.

It will publicise village fund-raising events, regular club meetings, and sports fixtures in a diary, similar to the centre page example, elaborated by reports from the organisers both before and after the major events.

For example, the information previously contained in the newsletters of all local Residents’ Associations would be published here. Various leaflets or notice board posters announcing church raffles, school bingo sessions, or charity coffee mornings could be printed in this magazine instead. Local public services such as GP Surgery hours, Grammar School lunches, and Police Surgery times will be included.

Free does not mean worthless

Volunteers will distribute The Gazettefree to every property located in Galmpton, Churston, and Broadsands. It will be funded by sponsorship from local organisations and businesses, and may include some adverts.

That it is free does not mean it is worthless. It will be as valuable as your contributions to it, and will largely be funded by your subscriptions to the organisations that sponsor it, and your attendance at events it publicises.

Anyone wanting to be a delivery volunteer or community correspondent, or knows an organisation not listed overleaf, should notify the editor.

If the magazine does not offer what you want, just tell the editor what is missing!

School Lunches

Did you know that Churston Ferrers Grammar School is offering school lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays to anyone from the local community?

The cost is £3.50 per person for two set courses served at 12 noon prompt, and to close by 1:10 pm. Meat served on Wednesday, and fish on Friday.

You must book by phone on 843210 two days ahead to ensure your place.

Does anybody want to be our restaurant food critic?

20-mph Speed Zone Petition

Literally hundreds of residents have signed a petition to reduce the speed limit in Galmpton! GRA have sent the petitions to Torbay Council urging them to immediately install 20-mph zone signs in and around the village. Many of the signatures on the petitions were obtained by the efforts of a young lady named Emma living in Langdon Fields! GRA are very grateful for her support and assistance. Thanks Emma ;)
