JOB SHADOWING PROGRAM

2018

Definition of Job Shadowing: Through job shadowing, a student is able to observe a person in a typical workday in a chosen field. The employee serves as a role model by doing his/her job as usual and in some cases allowing the student to perform some aspects of the job. The purpose is to expose students to the realities of the work place and to reveal the character traits employees need on the job.

Benefits to Students:

  • Students develop an awareness of careers based on real experience.
  • Students gain a first hand perspective of what adults actually do in careers that are of interest to them.
  • Students test their assumptions about different careers and can make informed decisions regarding future training.
  • Students start their training on the job.
  • Students learn needed skills that increase their employability in different fields.
  • Students may demonstrate abilities that open doors to part-time or full-time employment opportunities.
  • Students may increase their motivation for school by relating learning to specific goals.
  • Students learn the character traits that are needed in the world of work.
