12:45-1:20 / 35 / Objective 1- Build assessment literacy: understand the skills the Interim assessments measure
  1. Answer the items on the Scavenger Hunt by using the ACT Aspire Periodic Technical Manual. Work with a partner. [25 minutes]
  2. Debrief the Scavenger Hunt with the Maître d’ Protocol [10 minutes]

1:20-2:15 / 55 / Objective 2- Build assessment literacy: understand how results are reported
  1. Use the Objectivity/Specificity Matrix to write specific and descriptive statements that are low on the Ladder of Inference. [10 minutes]
  2. Analyze ACT Aspire Interim reports using the Notice/Wonder Protocol. Open the Notice/Wonder Protocol. [35 minutes]
    Generate the ACT Aspire Interim reports in the following order:
  3. Subject Proficiency by Group
  4. Subject Proficiency by Student
  5. Student Performance
  6. Skill Proficiency by Student
  7. Response/Content Analysis
  8. Think-Pair-Share: what are you learning from the analysis? [10 minutes]
  9. Use the ACT Aspire Interim Test Monitoring Tool (elementary or high school) to track performance

2:15-2:20 / 5 / Break
2:20-3:20 / 60 / Objective 3- Use results to make adjustments to instruction
  1. Tasks predict student performance [10 minutes]
  2. Questions to answer when analyzing tasks [25 minutes]
  3. Leverage the collective knowledge of the group using the Carousel Protocol [20 minutes]
  4. Debrief the Carousel Protocol using the SUMI Protocol [5 minutes]

3:20-3:25 / 5 / Review next steps:
  • Bring training back to the faculty at school
  • First: build assessment literacy- identify the skills the ACT Aspire Interim assessments measure
  • Second: build assessment literacy- understand how results are reported
  • Third: collaborate with teachers to analyze ACT Aspire Interim results
  • Fourth: compare/contrast the complexity of tasks between the ACT Aspire Interim test items and student tasks assigned by teachers
  • Fifth: identify the skills that require small-group instruction for re-teaching
  • Sixth: re-teach the skills that have a proficiency rate that is less than 66%.
