NDT/BOBATH CERTIFICATE COURSE
IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ADULTS WITH STROKE & BRAIN INJURY
Surrey Memorial Hospital and Jim Pattison OP Care & Surgery Centre are offering the NDT/Bobath Certificate Course in the Management of Adults with Stroke and Brain Injury. This sixteen-day course in the management of adults with neurological dysfunction due to stroke or brain injury is based on the philosophy and basic principles of Dr. Karel and Mrs. Berta Bobath. The NDT Approach has since continued to evolve with new research findings and current evidence guiding clinical practice.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Participants must be qualified Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, or Speech-Language Pathologists with a minimum of one year post-graduate experience, and be presently working with adults with neurological dysfunction.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Participants will have the opportunity to increase their ability to:
¤ apply the principles of NDT to the management of the adult client.
¤ better assess and analyze normal and abnormal movement.
¤ identify impairments interfering with function.
¤ integrate the approach to management with concepts of neuroplasticity, recovery of function, and motor learning theory.
¤ develop handling skills useful in facilitating normal function.
COURSE FORMAT
The course format includes lectures, laboratory practice sessions, patient demonstrations by the instructors, treatment of patients by course participants, and small group work. There will be written work including an exam at course completion.

The fee for this sixteen-day course is:

This will include course reference materials and refreshments during breaks. Lunch is not included.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellations received in writing by Aug 21st receive a refund (75% of fees). After that date, no refunds will be given.

Ø Applicants will be notified of acceptance by September 1, 2015.

INSTRUCTORS
Cathy Hazzard (MBA, B.Sc.P.T.) is a PT with
over 28 years experience working with adults
with varied neurological diagnoses. Her clinical background also includes experience and
continuing education courses in manual therapy
and orthopaedics. She obtained an MBA in 1993
while continuing to work as a PT. She has been
an NDTA™ Coordinator Instructor in Adult
Hemiplegia since 1998 and has taught introductory, certificate and advanced level NDT courses
extensively throughout North America and internationally. Cathy practiced in Calgary,
Alberta, Canada for over 20 years in the acute, rehabilitation and outpatient phases of care.
She is now working in private practice and Home
Health on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Teresa Siebold (B.HSc.P.T., B.Sc.Kin) is a Physiotherapist with 17 years of experience in adult neurorehabilitation. She has served in clinical and leadership positions on Stroke Units, neurosurgical and neuro-investigating units as well as inpatient and outpatient settings. Teresa has practiced in Ontario, BC, and Alberta, where she is also a private Practitioner. Currently, Teresa is working at the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (ARBI) in Calgary. As an educator, Teresa began instructing post-graduate courses for PTs, OTs, and Assistants in 2008. She is an NDTA™ PT Instructor.
