General Information:

  • Email is the best form of communication.
  • Homework is assigned weekly. Most homework can be completed during class time.
  • Assignments will be posted to the course website, as well as other important course information.

Units:
1: Introduction to World Cultures and Geography
2: The United States and Canada / 3: Latin America
4: Europe, Russia, and the Independent Republics

Topics:Civics, cultures, economics, geography, and history. We are also focusing on reading and writing skills.

Textbook:McDougal Littell, World Cultures and Geography – Western Hemisphere and Europe, 2007.

Materials: Students will need a pocket folderfor handouts and assignments.They should come to class each day with their textbook, folder, agenda, and a pencil or two. Some class assignments will require students to work with the text book. If they are not prepared, they may receive a lower grade or a zero for the assignment.

Classroom Behavior: Students are expected to come to class on time and prepared with all necessary materials. They should participate in classroom and group projects and discussions, follow directions, raise their hand to question or comment, and treat others respectfully. They must use the sign-out sheet if they are to leave the room for any reason. Serious or habitual offenses could result in silent lunch detention, after school detention, or other consequences.

  1. First offense - warning
  2. Second offense - phone call or email home
  3. Third offense - lunch detention

Evaluation: Students’ grades will be based upon homework assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, presentations, research, and participation.Extra credit assignments will be limited. My expectation is that students will always do their best work. Please see me (or email) if there are extenuating circumstances. Late or missing work should be turned in before the end of the day for credit. It should be marked late or absent. There will be a deduction for late work. Quizzes will be taken after we finish each lesson. Chapter tests will have study guides and reviews. A variety of learning methods will be used. We are looking forward to a super 2016-2017 school year!
