Post – Midday Play Worker

JOB DESCRIPTION

Overall Objectives of the Post

Working as a member of a team to support and promote the school’s aims, values, vision and Mission Statement by providing high quality support during lunchtimes.

Key Tasks of the Post

There are two main areas of responsibility;supporting children in the nursery during the meal and engaging with the children as they play after they have eaten their lunch.

Duties will include the following:

Lunchtime

  • Helping to organise the children who stay for lunch.
  • Supervising toilet arrangements and hand washing before the meal.
  • Helping to serve food and drinks.
  • Assisting children with the use of cutlery.
  • Talk with and reassure children who are finding this new situation difficult, helping them to enjoy this quieter, more relaxed time of day.
  • Calmly interacting with the children as they eat their lunch.
  • Encouraging the development of good eating habits and table manners.
  • Encouraging children to select and eat healthy balanced meals including tasting dishes which may be new to them.
  • Helping to maintain a reasonable noise level whilst the children are eating so that it is possible to carry out a conversation without shouting.
  • To clean up any spillages of food or drink.
  • To support children with SEND.

Play Activities

  • To encourage the inclusion and acceptance of all children including those with SEND.
  • To engage with children as they access nursery activities both indoor and outdoor after they have eaten their lunch.
  • To monitor and contribute to the assessment and recording of children’s development and be involved in the sharing of this information in line with Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.
  • Provide a secure, safe, caring and enriching environment for the children.
  • Understanding the importance of a positive approach to promote learning and excellent behaviour.
  • To administer First Aid treatment where necessary.
  • Attending to children’s needs e.g.personal care.
  • Assist in the liaison with staff at 12:45, relaying messages and information about the children.
  • Act in accordance with school policies and procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection and behaviour management.
  • To participate in any relevant training needs.
  • To give general support to school activities and support the ethos of the school.
  • Undertaking such other duties, from time to time, which may be required by the Headteacher.

Within the school year, there will be occasional days when a school meal/full day is not available. Our Midday Play workers use their usual hours to help in school in other ways on those days.
