Engagement Manager

Primary

Initiates and drives highly complicated projects that impact multiple business units or functional areas, with project timelines sometimes exceeding 12 months. Projects are typically customer facing and involve coordination of activities and communications with a customer project team. Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing project timelines and plans for the project and project sub-teams.
  • Typically manages teams on major (strategic, flagship) type initiatives that may be comprised of 20 or more individuals.
  • Provides recommendation to management regarding resources (people, financial, tools, etc.) required to complete projects.
  • Solicits and obtains management authorization for development and documentation of new and/or existing business processes and information systems.
  • Ensure project team members have the knowledge and information required to perform their tasks.
  • Travel required as appropriate, typically less than 10%

Expertise

  • Organizes and coordinates cross-functional teams of resources to meet project objectives for large projects..
  • Develops and oversees deployment of processes and tools for management and control of projects.
  • Proactively evaluates alternatives, recommends actions, and develops strategies to maximize project success.
  • Capitalizes on opportunities that contain an acceptable level of risk.
  • Identifies project risks and issues, develops solutions and mitigation strategies for issues and risks.
  • Establishes project timelines and project plans
  • May supervise other Project Managers and Business Analysts, assisting and facilitating their successful performance and achievement of project tasks and deliverables.
  • Develops proposals for internal process improvements.
  • Manages the day-to-day relationship with customer personnel, typically Project Managers, Directors, V.P.’s and Business Analysts.
  • Prepares project status reports and presentations.
  • Mentors project team members.
  • Effectively facilitates meetings involving customer and internal resources from diverse functional areas.
  • Fosters a stimulating and supportive environment for project teams.
  • Provides recommendations to management regarding resources (people, financial, tools, etc.) required to complete projects
  • Interprets and directs original solutions to a broad range of highly complex and/or administrative and/or managerial issues.
  • Conceive, plan, and execute projects related to the strategic needs of the company.
  • Develops, evaluates and documents company procedures.
  • Considerable judgment may be required in organizing and planning tasks, and selecting proper methods where established methods provide only general guidance.
  • Decisions may involve modifying or adapting existing methods to unique situations.

  • Accountable for IT and non-IT project deliverables of others.
  • Accountable for setting, measuring, and controlling project labor expense.
  • Proactively influences peers and management to support successful implementation of changes;

  • Provides complex information and work results to management.
  • Decisions and actions can have a significant impact on company performance or objectives.
  • Manages all phases of project development and implementation by ensuring that business deliverables are completely satisfied, on time and within budget.
  • Communicates on assigned project deliverables to keep management apprised of project status, major issues, scope changes, resource changes and milestone achievements or misses.
  • Meets with end-users and technical specialists to develop and execute project plans for all tasks related to the project deliverables.
  • Provides continuous flow of complex information and work results to higher levels.

Job Knowledge

  • Must be comfortable addressing diverse and difficult problems or situations.
  • Requires experience successfully integrating activities across project teams comprised of individuals from multiple functional areas of the organization.
  • Maintains understanding of professional best practices for Project Management. Applies appropriate best practices in management of projects.

Computer Skills

  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or computer science preferred or equivalent experience.
  • PMP certification
  • 5+ years Project Leadership experience in a cross functional environment, (mix of IT and Non-IT deliverables) and customer-facing relationships.
  • Knowledge or familiarity of Waterfall SDLC desirable.
  • Knowledge of health insurance administrative practices or related business is highly desirable
