Call to Order/Self-introductions
The meeting was officially called to order by D. Robert Boegli, Director of Sheridan Technical College at 11:42 a.m. and self-introductions were made. Chairman, Hector Lopez was out of town on business.
Approval of the Minutes
Minutes from the November 18, 2015 SAC meeting were approved. The motion was made by Henry Graham and seconded by Robert Hemingway; motion passed.
Old SAC Business
· School Improvement Plan – Mary Barba
o Sheridan is in the process of uploading documents for the County to review and approve. The SIP plan will be out for public review.
· COE Update – Annette Johnson
o A handout was distributed regarding COE and Mrs. Johnson reviewed it with the Committee. (attached)
o Sheridan has been accredited since 1974. The accreditation is renewed yearly with a physical visit every six years.
o COE now conducts unannounced visits.
o COE’s requirements for accreditation is 60% completion, 70% job placement, and 70% licensure pass rate. Sheridan far surpasses those requirements. We are 100% compliant.
· Broward Technical College Strategic Plan – Bob Boegli
o The three Colleges are working on their Strategic Plan. It will be a three to five year plan. There are six areas in this plan. They are:
§ Identify stakeholders, their needs, and participation level
§ Develop a three college organizational/operational structure
§ Evaluate the process for the distribution of information to all stakeholders
§ Evaluate the current process for the development of policies and procedures
§ Identify the resources and evaluate how they are used
§ Effectiveness and efficiency
· Student Industry Certifications – Bob Boegli
o Students in our programs have to take and pass a certification exam to obtain their industry certification.
o There are certain programs that have identified as targeted areas by the State. If a student passes their industry exam in one of the targeted areas, the school will receive $1,000.
o As of now we have 184 students that have passed one of these exams. This translated to $184,000 for the school.
· Scholarship Foundation – Lynn Goldman
o The Foundation event will be held at the Signature Grand on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.
o It’s a food and wine event. The tickets are $50.00 per person, which is tax deductible.
o All funds raised will go towards scholarships for students at the three colleges.
New SAC Business
· Heart Walk – Jamie Schempp
o The Heartwalk will be held on April 23, 2016 at Nova Southeastern University.
o The event opens at 8:00; the walk begins at 9:00 (5K)
o The Broward Technical Colleges are forming a team. There is no cost to join the team.
o Each team member will be given a t-shirt. Registering to participate on the team is available online at

· High School Plan for 2016-2017 – Bob Boegli
o Next year the 10th graders, in addition to four high level academic classes, will have selected a technical program.
o The classes will be online but the students will be housed in a lab on the high school campus in a Google Lab.
o STC will be limiting the number of students from other schools.
o When the students become Seniors, they will most likely be housed on the main campus.
· A+ Fund Proposals – Mary Barba and Lynn Goldman
o A+ funds are monies given to a school by the State after a school has received an A rating or shown dramatic improvement.
o The SAC must create proposals, no more than two + “none of the above” to be voted on my the school faculty and staff. The staff will be notified and a vote will take place.
o The three choices that were approved are:
§ 100% of the A+ funds be equally distributed among all of the contracted faculty and staff who worked at Sheridan for ½ a year plus 1 day during the 2014-2015 school year.
§ 50% of the A+ Funds be equally distributed among all of the contracted faculty and staff who worked at Sheridan for ½ a year plus 1 day during the 2014-2015 school year and 50% be divided equally for supplies on the three campuses.
§ None of the above.
Student News and Reports
· Class of 2018 – Jade Scotland
o STHS had its first Tri-college football game.
o Spirit week was a huge success
o The mascot costume was received.
o STHS cheerleaders are to march in the Orange Bowl Parade
· Class of 2019 – Jennifer Olenchak
o There have been a couple of successful fund raisers ??
o The 9th and 10th grades had a donut fundraising contest. The winning grade will receive a pizza party at the end of the year.
o Monies have been raised for the Honor Flight program. It costs $500 per person. Funds have already been raised by STHS to send one veteran to Washington DC to see the World War II Memorial. The hope is to send a second veteran by the end of the year.
· Student Government Association – Ricky Garcia
o The school dance was a huge success.
o The theme was “Winter Wonderland”
o The tickets were $30.00 each. A profit of $1,370 was made.
· Post-Secondary Students – (Claudia Milne– PN and Samuel Dorta – Carpentry)
o The PN students are now in Block 3.
o The classes are now partially on campus and partially online. The online portion helps the students study in a different way. Despite anxiety over the online format the students are very pleased with their curriculum, teachers and course content.
o The students are excited about the new clinical areas
o The Carpentry program has more students registered this term. In February they will be competing in SkillsUSA.

Member Announcements
· Tom Moncilovich reported that Sheridan Technical College will be hosting some of the Regional Skills USA competition next week.
· The students in the Massage Therapy program will be providing chair massages at the Miami Dolphin Cancer Challenge

· The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 p.m., motion was made by Henry Graham and seconded by Anna Knable.
· The next meeting will be held on March 16, 2016 at 11:30.
