WinterGuard
Information Sheet
Eligibility
- Open to any student 7th grade –to age 22, and any school in and around the area that would like to participate.
- You do not have to be in marching band to be a part of winterguard.
- Both male and female students welcome.
Requirements
- Must attend clinics that start April 3rd in the Springfield Junior High Gym from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and run every tuesday and thursday until May 31st.
- Clinics will consist of learning basic maneuvers and techniques on flag and rifle that will be required for beginning level winterguard.
- All students coming to clinics must wear tennis shoes and socks, tee shirt, yoga pants,workout pants or sweatpants (no jeans). You will be doing a lot of moving around.
- All students are required to participate in warm ups and stretches.
- All students must bring a water bottle or drink to stay hydrated.
- There will be a short break in the middle of clinics.
- There will be travel required to performances for winterguard
- There are approximately 5 performances we are doing right now.
Uniforms/Equipment/Fees
- Everything is provided (but if you have your own rifle please bring it)
- There will be a small fee for each member to participate (TBD based on # of members)
Size of the WinterGuard
- We are looking for a minimum of 6 members but no more than 25.
Dismissal
- Excessive tardiness, disrespect to other guard members or director/instructors, excessive absences from guard rehearsals required by the guard instructor, or any other incidents determined by the director may be grounds for dismissal from the group.
Rehearsals
- ALL members are expected to be at all clinics, rehearsals, performances.
- So if you are in other sports please let the instructor know your practice schedule.
- Practices usually begin in November and meet 2 times a week in the evening at one of the Schools in Springfield District.
- Parents/family/guests are welcome to come to the first clinic and watch but please refrain from interrupting until break time, after that we ask only the students be present so there are no distractions during the learning process.
