Title of Job: Employment Adviser – Women at the Centre (Building Better Opportunities / ESF)
Salary:HAWC Grade 29 - £28,183 incl. ILW
Duration: June 2019
Hours of Work:35 Hours
Reports to: Project Manager – Women at the Centre
AMain Purpose and Scope of the Job
- To promote the Big Lottery / ESF funded Women at the Centre project to potential candidates by organising open days, employability workshops, attending local community networking events and liaising with established agencies i.e. voluntary community groups, Black, Asian, ethnic minority and refugee communities.
- To promote the project to stakeholders i.e. Children Centres, schools, Training providers, Housing Associations.
- To assist candidates by identifying candidates’ skills, strengths and job requirements.To support and prepare candidates for work and/or training, delivering employability and other employment related advice and informationto enable them to make informed choices about work and financial independence.
BMain Tasks and Responsibilities
- Service Delivery
1.1To meet with individual candidates across a variety of community locations and assist them in identifying their employment aspirations, including any basic skills and training needs
1.2To carry out one to one IAG support and personalised Action planning
1.3Screening candidates’ basic needs and signposting to literacy and numeracy support where appropriate
1.4Referring candidates to services delivered through the Employment project
1.5To deliver training and facilitate workshops that build confidence and ability to access employment
1.6To provide Better off in Work benefit calculations
1.7To plan, set up and deliver a range of employment related group activities and taster sessions
1.8To maintain an optimum caseload of candidates
1.9Assist candidates in goal setting and support their progress; this will include supporting candidates when their motivation levels drop (retention)
1.10To regularly contact and meet with candidates to support them in pursing their work goals by giving information, advice and guidance about options available to them and the steps required to reach those goals.
1.11Assist the Employer Engagement Worker to identify candidates for work experience opportunities and those clients who are job ready to find work.
1.12To accurately record information from meetings with candidates on project forms and enter this information onto the project’s client management information system in line with compliance deadlines for project claim.
1.13To maintain beneficiaries’ files according to Big Lottery / ESF requirements.
1.14To review, monitor and update candidate records to ensure all outcomes information is collected and processed promptly.
1.15To take appropriate responsibility to ensure the health and safety of self and others involved in lone working
1.16Undertake any other tasks and responsibilities appropriate to the level of this post.
- Service Development
2.1To maintain relationships with organisations/agencies which provide training and employment services i.e. Community education, training providers, voluntary organisations.
2.2To set up and maintain relationships with organisations which may refer candidates into the service i.e. JCP, Housing Associations, Health & Welfare agencies
2.3To develop relationships with local employers to assist the job-broker in securing work experience and job opportunities.
2.4To attend project staff meetings and provide timely progress reports
2.5 To meet project targets as per Project Plan
2.6Keep records of activities and manage own administration associated with project
- General Responsibilities

3.1To keep accurate records adhering to relevant policies regarding confidentiality and information sharing and equal opportunities.
3.2To keep abreast of national strategies, best practice and research relating to employment and skills
3.3Contribute to the sharing of good practice and support continuous improvement throughout Hopscotch.
3.4Participate in supervision and appraisal with their line manager. To work with the line manager to review professional development and undertake training as agreed.
3.5To occasionally work during evenings and weekends, as required by the post.
3.6Contribute through Hopscotch team meetings, training and outreach/events to the development of Hopscotch services
3.7Any others duties which are considered commensurate with the post.

A coaching or mentoring qualification / D
Knowledge / Knowledge and understanding of the barriers to work faced by disadvantaged groups in accessing training and employment and the range of different approaches to address this / E
Ability to communicate in Bengali/Sylheti highly desirable / D
Knowledge of issues faced by people with disabilities (including learning disability), mental health, substance/alcohol misuse / E
Understanding of honour based violence, domestic abuse and forms of gender based violence and discrimination affecting BME women. / E
Knowledge of the workless and skills agenda / E
Knowledge of welfare reforms and the implication it has for economically inactive and unemployed women / E
Experience / Experience of supporting people to find employment and support with job coaching / E
Experience of running or facilitating community outreach activities aimed at hard to reach communities / E
Experience of developing and facilitating training to develop motivation and confidence in relation to employment or a similar area / E
Experience of delivering IAG, employment related workshops to diverse communities, especially women experiencing multiple barriers to work / E
Experience of engaging with employers and secure opportunities for candidates / E
Experience of managing a caseload of jobseekers and maintaining their motivation / E
Experience of working to targets and meeting deadlines / E
Experience of presenting statistical and qualitative information / E
Skills & Abilities / Ability to communicate using a range of skills and communication methods / E
