APPLICATION:

This procedure is applicable to any and all at any group home, off site living arrangement or day program operated by Northpointe.

POLICY:

Northpointe is committed to employee, service recipient, public and contractors’ safety and health. Employee and service recipient safety and the prevention of loss is of utmost importance to Northpointe. Our concern for fire safety exceeds quality, cost, and productivity.

PURPOSE:

To ensure prompt and proper response to fire emergencies at Northpointe community housing and activity sites.

INFORMATION:

1.The building may be equipped with a smoke detection system that will sound an alarm with the presence of smoke. All staff are to know what type of alarm system is installed in the building you work in.

2.Fire extinguishers are located at the entrances and will be used for rescue and escape only.

3.Evacuation route maps are installed on the walls within the building. The location of the fire
extinguishers are also on the maps.

PROCEDURE:

Each site will have a unique Protection Plan. Each site will have an evacuation plan, unique to that site, in writing and on file with the Maintenance Manager and the Contract Manager. At a minimum the plan’s components will include:

1.Evacuation Routes and Exits

2.Procedure for Developing a Plan for Evacuating Service Recipients – This is to be a specific plan, unique to each setting that details the safe evacuation of each individual from the facility.

3. Additional Protection Plan Components for group homes and other residential settings

  • The Emergency Kit Bag
  • Fire Safety Orientation for New Group Home Staff
  • Assessment of Prevention Practices for Maintaining a Fire Safe Home
  • Fire Safe Practices in the Kitchen
  • Fire Safe Practices in the Laundry
  • Fire Extinguisher Signs
  • Battery Operated Smoke Detector Test & Maintenance Log
  • Emergency Lighting Fixture Test & Maintenance Log
  • Fire Extinguisher Check and Maintenance Log
  • Alarm Pull Station Test and Maintenance Log
  • Completed Evacuation Scores shall be on file at each group home providing specialized residential services.

4. Fire Drills: Fire drills will be conducted per licensing or site specific regulation or policy.
