20 hours a week for 10 months (mid-August to mid-June). Compensation based on qualification and experience.
Major Responsibilities
Program and Curricula
In collaboration with Rector, lay leaders (Christian Education Committee to be formed), parents, and youth:
- Create a Christian Education Committee
 - Brainstorm, create, or find resources for engaging, spiritually serious, and fun curricula and projects that deepen the faith of children, youth, and parents
 - Seek ways to incorporate social justice projects/curricula into St. Peter’s children and youth program
 - Explore and implement new models of intergenerational formation and worship
 - Co-teach Confirmation Class
 - Develop a plan and program for St. Peter’s youth after Confirmation including convening and leading Youth Group
 - Build pastoral relationships with parents and children
 
Teaching and Supporting Teachers
- Coordinate volunteers in the Sunday morning education classes
 - Be a welcoming presence on Sunday mornings, both before 10:00 service, and at coffee hour
 - Communicate with parents regarding schedule and curriculum
 - Invite and train teachers
 - Ensure rooms and teacher materials are properly organized and supplied
 - Possibly teach one of the children’s Christian education classes on Sunday mornings
 
Administrative
- Attend regular staff meetings
 - Have regular time at church office during the week
 - Maintain communication with staff, volunteers, parents and students, including weekly e-mail to parents
 - Provide information for parish communications, including weekly parish newsletter, Sunday leaflet announcements, parish website, and social media
 - Maintain registration and attendance records of children and families
 - Administer Safe Church training and CORI checks
 - Budget Christian education funds
 - Meet regularly with Christian Education Committee once formed
 - Work with other church leaders on special events including: Celebration Sunday, Advent Wreath-making, Christmas pageant, Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, Maundy Thursday, Easter Egg hunt, movie nights, parish breakfasts, others.
 
Worship
- Explore possibility of children’s chapel liturgy
 - Recruit, train and schedule acolytes
 - Work with Rector in planning special all-age services including Christmas Eve & Maundy Thursday
 - Make sure coloring books, crayons, “children in church” pamphlet, etc in the back of the church and pews are stocked, and switch books for different seasons of the year
 
Nursery
- Hire and support paid child care staff
 - Locate backup coverage in case of absence of paid workers
 - Ensure supplies are stocked
