JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision collects, compiles, edits and analyzes dataaccording to standardized methods and procedures for statisticalstudies and presents results for final interpretation by others.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  1. Performs data analysis as directed.
  1. Codes and edits data for statistical analysis.
  1. Assists in the design and preparation of data collectioninstruments; performs data collection through means such as fileor record review, medical chart abstraction, interview, or reviewof surveys and reports.
  1. Creates code books and writes data collection instructions.
  1. Assists in the structuring of and maintains computerized databasesincluding the receipt, inventory, data entry, organization, andquality control procedures of data collection instruments.Identifies and resolves data entry reporting discrepancies.
  1. Assists in formulating data searches and data exchanges amongmicro-, mini- and mainframe-based computer applications.
  1. Searches databases to generate standard and custom reports using avariety of computerized statistical applications such as SAS andSPSS-X, BMDP, Epi-Info or Systat; summarizes results.
  1. Assists in the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, andproposals by presenting statistical information in formats such astables, charts, or graphs.

  1. May assist with conducting current literature searches andreviews; classifies references by study design.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in a related field.

EXPERIENCE: One year related experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Working knowledge of research methods and statistical techniques andprocedures. Skill in the use of computers and a variety of softwareapplications such as data bases, graphics, spreadsheets, andstatistical packages for data management and analysis purposes.Ability to present statistical data in appropriate formats; to operatestandard office equipment; to communicate effectively both orally andin writing.

OTHER:

Except for qualifications established by law, additionalrelated experience and formal education in which one has gained theknowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of thework of the job class may be substituted for the education orexperience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 collegecredits being equivalent to one year of experience.
