A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE REVEREND ROCK E. SIMS FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HIS FAITH AND COMMUNITY, AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST UPON HIS INSTALLATION AS PASTOR OF MT. PILGRIM BAPTIST CHURCH ON MAY 28, 2006.
Whereas, a Folkston, Georgia native, the Reverend Rock E. Sims has led an extraordinary life of steadfast devotion to his family, career, and faith; and
Whereas, a dedicated family man, Reverend Sims shares a loving marriage with his wife, Norma J. Edwards Sims, and enjoys his four children, Tunesia, Janir, Laevetra, and Rock, Jr.; and
Whereas, bravely serving his country for twenty eight-years in the United States Army, Reverend Sims retired in 2005 as a Command Sergeant Major; and
Whereas, a graduate of Central Texas College with an Associate Degree in General Studies and of Coker College with a degree in Business Administration, Reverend Sims is currently enrolled at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina, pursuing a Master of Divinity degree; and
Whereas, accepting his call from God to preach the gospel, Reverend Sims delivered his initial sermon and was licensed to preach in October 1997 at Snow Hawk Gospel Chapel at Fort Richardson, Alaska; and
Whereas, upon moving to Columbia, South Carolina, Reverend Sims joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church and served as an associate minister under the leadership of Pastor Leon R. Dickerson. In 2004, he was ordained by the authority and order of the Gethsemane Baptist Association of Columbia and in August of that year became a co-minister in charge of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church; and
Whereas, Reverend Sims was elected Pastor of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church on January 29, 2006; and
Whereas, Reverend Sims believes that as a spiritual leader one must serve as a living example of a devoted Christian in his church and community; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives is certain that Reverend Sims will go on to touch countless lives in his role as Pastor of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, and congratulates him on his installation on May 28, 2006. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Reverend Rock E. Sims for his outstanding contributions to his faith and community, and wish him all the best upon his installation as Pastor of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church on May 28, 2006.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Rock E. Sims.
