PAC SWI-X Installation
2001+ Pontiac Grand Am
Step 1 – Read through and understand the PAC SWI-X Instructions. You will be using the RED, GREEN, and BLACK wires from the PAC SWI-X, that is all. Extra wires may be trimmed and taped up. Be careful not to cut any of the exiting loops on the PAC SWI-X harness.
Step 2 – Locate the two wires to tap at the radio. The GREEN wire from the PAC SWI-X must be connected to the LIGHT GREEN wire at Pin A7 of the stock radio harness. The PINK wire, Pin A6 at the radio harness, needs to be connected to a switched +12V lead. (This is the red wire on an aftermarket head unit)
This is a view of the stock radio harness. The two wires to tap are numbered and highlighted in red.
Step 3 – Connect the RED wire of the PAC SWI-X to a switched +12V lead. This is the red wire on an aftermarket head unit.
Step 4 – Connect the BLACK wire of the PAC SWI-X to chassis ground. This is the black wire on an aftermarket head unit.
Step 5 – Follow the PAC SWI-X Programming instructions. 2001+ Grand Am’s use Version #1.
Step 6 – Mount the emitter from the PAC SWI-X. The emitter needs direct line of sight to the head unit in order to function. Common places are in the center console, near the shifter assembly, or coming out of the dash by the radio and sitting very close to it. A good hidden spot is shown here, next to the windshield wiper stalk.
Route the emitter wire down behind the radio and back up to the instrument panel cluster area. Remove the top trim piece on the steering column to get the emitter wire into that area.
Step 7 – Before inserting your new head unit back into place, and neatening up all wires, the PAC SWI-X can fit in the cavity below the radio, behind the HVAC controls, or towards the right of the radio area towards the glove box.
