Creative Powerhouses Join Forces for Geekend 2015

April 22nd, 2015 - Two of Savannah's most creative forces are coming together for Geekend 2015. The Guild Hall, Savannah's newest creative community, is sponsoring Geekend, presented by The Creative Coast, to provide space for this year's conference from October 15th-17th.

The Creative Coast and The Guild Hall are joining forces to bring together innovators, entrepreneurs, makers, designers, coders and other creatives to discuss and celebrate cutting edge developments. The 3 days are packed with content-driven presentations, interactive workshops and thought-provoking panels to spark conversations and push action to create, do, make and define tomorrow.

“It’s such a great match of lineup to locale and will give Geekend attendees a concrete backdrop for the ideas raised,” says Emily McLeod, the Programs Manager of The Creative Coast, Inc. “Batman has the Bat Cave, the Avengers have Stark Tower, and Geekend has The Guild Hall.”

As a part of the sponsorship, Geekend 2015 will take place on the campus of The Guild Hall on Montgomery St. With a plethora of exciting resources and facilities offered by The Guild Hall, The Creative Coast is confident that this year's Geekend will be the best yet. The Guild Hall, located at 615 Montgomery St in downtown Savannah, boasts a makerspace, a black box theater, several computer labs, and many other creative spaces that will be the perfect fit for Geekend. The Guild Hall will allow for the addition of hands-on workshops and lessons to add a whole new level of creative excitement for the conference.

The annual Geekend conference brings together makers and doers from all over the world. Among its prestigious speakers, Geekend has hosted the likes of Mark Hatch (CEO, Techshop) and Prof. Neil Gershenfeld (Director, MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms). To be announced soon, this year's Geekend keynote lineup is sure to dazzle its audience. This year's theme is “Growth”, expressed through innovation, creativity, and technology.

Geekend has been described as having “...great conversations, insightful presentations and no shortage of good times. The energy of those in attendance was palpable...a great festival celebrating the best of the next generation of makers and doers.” (Doug Gross, CNN.com). With “mind-blowing speeches on the coming renaissance of makers around the world” (Meredith O'Malley Johnson, One Spark), The Guild Hall and The Creative Coast are confident that this year’s effort will serve the creative and entrepreneurial community of Savannah and beyond.

The Guild Hall is a “thirdspace” for creative individuals that allows its members to play, create, and network on its four-building campus. It frequently holds exciting classes on woodworking, coding, performing arts, and more. Membership ranges from $10/month to $100/month depending on the level of perks the member desires. It aims to connect its members and inspire them to create things together in a creative environment, as well as to be a safe and comfortable haven for creative individuals.

With a similar goal, The Creative Coast is a Savannah non-profit organization that exists to nurture the members of the community engaged in creative or innovative endeavors and to cultivate an environment in which they can thrive.

Registration for Geekend 2015 begins at $150, including access to speakers and workshops, lunches and admission to all receptions. As a part of the partnership, members of The Guild Hall who attend a total of ten events at The Guild Hall and/or Creative Coast between May 1st and September 1st, 2015, will earn $50 off their ticket to Geekend. Punch cards for the promotion can be received at either facility from May 1st.
