Zonta Club of Ringwood ~ Highlights for 2010-2011

Service

Our service projects for this year have been:

Food donations for the Center for Family Resources and Center for food Action – we collect food at our monthly meetings for them.

Giving tree at Christmas – We had 2 trees set up with names of the children that attend the Center for Family Resources at a local restaurant and bank. This not only got our members involved, but it also involved the whole community. People would come and take a mitten off the tree and buy a gift, wrap it and bring it back to us to give to the Center.

Clothing Drive – We had a clothing drive for DASI, a women’s shelter in Sussex County and a Mary Kay pamper yourself night.

Teen mother outing and luncheon – We sponsored an outing and luncheon for the teen moms from the Center for Family Resources. We supplied them with graduation gifts and supplies for college.

Girls Scout Event – We held an event for a Brownie Troop to help them earn a badge. We taught them how to act when they are out in a Restaurant and we also taught them proper table manners. This was a good event, because it shows the community that we are trying to help everyone. It also gave us a chance to meet the Mom’s of these girls and let them know what Zonta is.

Most of the things that we have done have been hands on service hours, because right now that is the only way we can help in our community.

Membership/Mentoring

The Zonta club of Ringwood is always looking for new members. I have made sure that every member of our club knows that it is the whole clubs responsibility to bring in new members. We also attend our local Farmer’s Market every month and give out information about our club and any upcoming events. We have a raffle for a plant at the Farmer’s Market, this way we get people to give us their information and we send out invites to our meetings and the newsletter if they seem interested. One of our new members came from seeing us at the Farmer’s Market.

Being that we are a new club, and I have been in Zonta for 17 years, I try to mentor each member. I work with all of my committee chairs and officers so that they know what is expected of them. I hope by doing this it makes them feel more comfortable talking about Zonta and introducing their friends to Zonta.

Other: Fundraising:

We sell our reusable grocery bags at the Farmer’s Market each month to help raise money for our service fund.

In November we had our 1st annual Beefsteak – it was a huge success. We had over 100 people attend this event. This gave us a great opportunity to let the local residents know who we are and what we do. We also had one person from this event join our club.

In December we had our annual Holiday party, most of our members attended this event and we also invited prospective members to join us for the celebration. We had this event at a member’s house and everyone brought some kind of food. We did a grab bag, where we read the story Twas the night before Christmas, and every time we said the word and we passed our gift to the right, at the end of the story you got to open the present you were left with. It was a fun night for all and a great TEAM building event.

In the spring we had a Mary Kay Facial night, which we earned over $500.00 dollars.

We are in the process of planning our first annual RAVE walk; this will take place on October 16th at Darlington State Park. And we have started planning our 2nd annual Beefsteak, also in October.
