Dear Parents/Carers,

As I am sure you appreciate, regular school attendance is essential if your child is to maximise their educational opportunities. An interruption in school attendance not only disrupts your child’s education it makes it harder to catch up on work missed and it can also affect their social life within school.

It is the school’s responsibility to provide the best education possible. We can only do this if your child / children attend regularly.

In recent years there have been increasing requests for holidays in term time as parents and carers believe that pupil are automatically allowed 10 days holiday from school in any one year.

This however, is not the case.

The Headteacher must consider the following points before authorising leave:

  • The pupil’s previous attendance history
  • The age of the pupil
  • The child’s stage of education
  • Time of Year (SAT’s/Exams)
  • The nature / reasons for absence

However, holidays will not normally be authorised for any of the following:

  • Availability of cheap holiday
  • Availability of the desired accommodation
  • Poor weather experienced in school holiday period
  • Overlap with beginning or end of term

All requests for leave in term time must be in writing on the Request for Term Time Leave of Absence form available from school.

Parents/carers must apply to the Headteacher in good time (at least 6 weeks in advance) for permission to take their child out of school during term time. Where unforeseen events occur (e.g. bereavement) parents/carers are still required to contact the school to request leave of absence.

We thank you in anticipation of your co-operation.
