Overall Job Purpose:
Operating as part of a national tourist information network, the overall purpose of the role is to engage with tourists to greatly enhance their experience of Ireland by providing accurate information and other support services in a friendly and efficient manner. The Tourist Information Offices provide a vital service to Irish and International visitors and also to the tourism industry.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
· Engage with visitors to enrich and enhance their experience of Ireland as a tourism destination e.g. identify their preferences/plans and provide information and advice on places to visit, things to do, places to eat and national/local festivals and events. Provide tourist literature for these and other attractions and advise on other sources of information e.g. internet etc.
· Make visitor bookings for a number of services e.g. accommodation, visitor attractions, coach tours, ferries, flights, entertainment, banquets, walking tours etc.
· Provide a balance of local and national information and give assistance with routes, directions etc.
· Participate in specific tourism promotional initiatives in partnership with the tourism trade.
· Maintain excellent standards of customer service in appearance, dress (uniform), all interactions with visitors and colleagues and by keeping tourist information facilities in an excellent condition.
· Work as part of a team to ensure that all services to visitors are integrated and efficient.
· Carry out duties according to Tourist office procedures e.g.:
o Attendance schedules and flexibility (5 day roster over 7 days)
o Management of visitor complaints
o Management of cash payments and stock levels as required
o Preparation of end of day, week and month reports
o Participation in training programmes
· Carry out additional tasks as required.
Person Specification:
Essential
· Comprehensive knowledge of local and regional tourist attractions and main national attractions.
· Knowledge of recent developments in the tourism industry and the role of the Tourist Information Offices.
· Excellent customer service and telephone skills that demonstrate an ability to deliver a range of services in a helpful, friendly and efficient manner.
· Ability to communicate with local and regional tourism organisations and collaborate with them in specific promotional activities.
· Ability to work under pressure in a team environment.
· Competent computer literacy skills i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.
· Fluency in English language.
Desirable
· Fluency in one or more of the following additional languages – Irish, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Polish· Knowledge of social media – e.g. Facebook, Twitter etc
