Background and Needs

- Most economies and businesses around the world promote technological innovation as their major growth engines and have been committed to developing and disseminating innovative technologies. As a result, the speed of technology innovation has been accelerating while it is getting more and more difficult to keep up with the speed of innovation with the traditional ways of management. Therefore, an innovative change in management is strongly needed.

- Many SMEs in the APEC region are facing management difficulties even with sophisticated technological capacities and necessary financial resources while the bipolarization effect between large enterprises and SMEs has been deepening. In this context, it is required to disseminate innovation-based management to SMEs so as to lay the groundwork for SMEs' growth.

- As growing importance is accorded to improving SME competitiveness and assuring SMEs' survival through innovation, it is urged to accelerate SME innovation by providing training and education on the innovation-based management that includes innovation methodologies and case studies. In this way it is possible to promote common prosperity in the entire APEC region.

※ Innovation-based Management:

Entrepreneurial directive for exercising consistent and continued business management based on an innovative mechanism designed to overhaul business strategies, management performance, organizational cultures and business methodologies.

Objectives

- To run training and educational programs where participants canlearn and discuss on the innovation-based management for SMEs and case studies.

- To provide opportunities to share the innovation experiences among participants and discuss the issues of their own member businesses or economies.

- To form a human network among the participants in the training session in order to prepare them as a member of APEC SME Innovation Leaders Club.
