Choral Call to Worship: Come Let Us Worship and Bow Down

*A Mighty Fortress Is Our God Trinity Hymnal № 92

*Prayer of Invocation and Thanksgiving

*Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever. Amen.

Old Testament Reading Proverbs 31:20-31

She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. She makes bed coverings for herself;her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gateswhen he sits among the elders of the land.

She makes linen garments and sells them;she delivers sashes to the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her householdand does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed;her husband also, and he praises her:"Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.

*Praise Song O Come, Let Us Adore Him

O come, let us adore Him, o come let us adore Him,

O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

We’ll praise His name forever, We’ll praise His name forever

We’ll praise His name forever, Christ the Lord.

We’ll give Him all the glory, We’ll give Him all the glory

We’ll give Him all the glory, Christ the Lord.

For He alone is worthy, For He alone is worthy,

For He alone is worthy, Christ the Lord.

Unison Confession

Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us.

Jesus, Bearer of our sins, have mercy on us.

Jesus, Redeemer of the world, grant us peace. Amen.

From: Angus Dei, the oldest known Christian prayer.

Private Confession

Sermon Notes

Introduction: Beyond food itself what do we need in this life? We need to be educated and instructed in the Truth. A note from Albert Einstein went on auction this week for $1.56 million dollars. It was Einstein’s advice on life to his bellboy because he didn’t have any money to give him. I clicked on the story thinking it must be something very profound. What did it say?

  1. The Source of the Scriptures – Verse 16a
  1. That little word “all.”
  1. Scripture is “breathed out” by God. What does it mean?
  1. The Use of the Scriptures – Verse 16b
  1. The Bible is living and active because it’s empowered by the Holy Spirit.
  1. The Bible teaches, reproofs us, corrects and does everything necessary to train us in righteousness. It is the tool for sanctification.
  1. The Results of the Scriptures – Verse 17
  1. The Bible’s stated purpose is to make us complete in our faith and equipped to do the good works that God has prepared beforehand for us to do.
  1. The Bible is not given to us simply to give us knowledge or Bible facts. It is a training manual for action.

Conclusion:

  1. The Bible’s source is God Himself. It is God breathed.
  1. Everything the Bible teaches is from God and true. But not everything about life is in the Bible.
  2. The Bible is our “only infallible rule of faith and practice.” (See Westminster Confession 1, paragraph 2). Nothing needs to be added to the Bible or taken from it.

Welcome

Welcome to Covenant Presbyterian Church. We are a church that is resolved, as the Apostle Paul said, to know nothing but Jesus Christ and Him crucified. This means we are a community seeking to discover just how amazing the love of God is, as we see it in the Gospel.

We are glad you are here, and we hope that you will find that there is a place for you at CPC as we worship Christ together.

Please introduce yourself to us by filling in a Guest Card, which you should find in the pews in front of you. These cards simply help us to know who you are, and how we can best serve you.
