2016/2017
Welcome to a NEW and exciting year of Cross Country!! Coach Joyner and Coach White anticipate a great season! Get ready for team work, long runs, and fabulous finishes!! J
The purpose of our district’s athletic program is to provide an educational sound program that emphasizes participation, cooperation, good sportsmanship and teamwork as well as healthy competition for the middle school student. Our goal is to provide the student athlete with the opportunity to acquire basic skills, confidence, and knowledge of the game along with a sense of loyalty, team play and sportsmanship.
** There will be a MANDATORY parent meeting on Thursday, August 25th at 5 pm in the Pueblo Multi-Purpose Room. **
Practice dates and times:
There are no try-outs for cross country; everyone makes the team!
Practices start Tuesday, August 16th
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday before school - 6:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.
Thursday after school – 3:40 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (until meets start and then there will be no more Thurs. practices)
Students are expected to attend all practices. The only criteria for making the team are that each student/athlete show up for practice on time and give 100% effort while they are at practice. Practices are designed to make you a better athlete, as stated “practice makes perfect,” so please come prepared to work and have fun. Practices will begin promptly at 6:30 a.m. Please show up a few minutes before in order to be ready to start at 6:30 a.m. We will meet by the track, so parents are to drop their children off at this location. Practices will be held Monday through Friday. Once meets begin, there will be no more Thursday practices and Friday practices will be limited. Remember to bring a WATER BOTTLE! WATER is a necessity for your body, so you must always be hydrating yourself!
After practice we will be showering in the locker rooms, so don’t forget toiletries, towels, school clothes, etc. You can go home and get ready if you live near the school, but we will need parental consent. We are here to ensure the safety of our student athletes so this is a must!!
If your child cannot make it to practice for any reason, please email the coaches before the scheduled practice to notify us. If we do not receive an email, it will be considered unexcused and they risk having to sit out of a meet.
Training:
Cross country training is all about the miles and workouts. We will have the workouts ready, which means you need to have your WORK ETHIC ready! Many of you will be at different levels, so we will do our best to accommodate to your running ability. Just understand that you GET BACK what you PUT IN!
Sportsmanship:
As parents and spectators you must agree to:
· Encourage good sportsmanship by using positive comments for all players, coaches, and officials.
· Understand that players, coaches, and officials can (and will) make mistakes. We agree to be supportive of all participants, thereby ensuring an enjoyable experience for all.
· We understand that spectators who do not adhere to these guidelines may be asked to leave the event and may be banned from all future athletics events.
Academic Standards:
All players must be passing in every class. Grades and behavior will be checked weekly. Failing grades are grounds for suspension and possible dismissal from the team.
**Also, sign up to receive important text messages through Remind101 by texting @373c4 to (520) 829-3894. This is a tool we will be using all season so be sure to get signed up right away!**
