GFC Scholarship Policy
Georgetown Football Club believes that no player should be precluded from playing because of financial constraints.
General:
- All scholarships are for registration fees only.
- Team travel expenses and uniforms are not covered except for rec players whose uniform costs are included in registration fees.
- Scholarships are granted on a yearly basis (spring and fall). Applications must be submitted prior to the beginning of each fall season.
- Scholarship funding is based on available funding for that season.
- Applications for scholarship will be kept confidential.
- The Select VP has oversight of the Scholarship Program for Select Teams
- The Rec VP has oversight of the Scholarship Program for Recreational Teams
Scholarship Criteria:
- Player currently receiving government assistance (e.g. welfare, housing assistance, or free/reduced school lunch)
- Extreme financial hardship or emergency as deemed necessary by the GFC Executive Board, EBOD (short term, no longer than 2 seasons)
- Partial scholarships will be offered based on need on the scale below.
*The EBOD will require verification of government assistance and/or tax return verification of financial need to determine qualification.
Scholarship Application:
- Recreational Scholarships may be applied for by submitting an application with requested documents to the Rec VP.
- Select Scholarships must follow the following:
- Request will be submitted through the team’s head coach, who will submit the request to the Select VP.
- The EBOD will be the approving authority. Requests will be submitted to the Board by Select VP and will be considered with the following understanding:
a.The head coach must endorse the request for scholarship.
b.There are a limited number of scholarships issued each year.
c.Board decisions to grant or not grant a scholarship are final.
d.Those applying for a scholarship understand the player must pay for their uniforms with the registration fee payment being on scholarship.
Obligations of the Scholarship Recipient:
- Player will attend all practices and games unless otherwise excused by the team coach.
- Player MUST volunteer on two occasions (within seasonal year for which scholarship is awarded) with Academy training at discretion of Director of Coaching and either Recreational or Select Academy Directors.
- Parents MUST volunteer with the field coordinator OR volunteer coordinator on two occasions or projects per EACH season fall and spring for which scholarship is awarded.
