  1. Division Initiatives

-  Telephone system update – there have been many issues with the phone system lately (restricted to one line when it rains, inability to call out, etc.) likely due to the aging system in place. The phone lines and entire system will be redone, including an update of the intercom system for the building, hopefully by the new year

-  Computer refresh – Computer labs are refreshed every 3 years. The old laptop cart and laptops will remain in place but without warranty and a new cart with new laptops will be added. Schools now have the option of adding an extra laptop cart in place of the old computer labs. Staff is looking at current use of the computer lab to see if this is a reasonable option for Haig

-  Early Literacy – there are Early Literacy Consultants in each of the 3 areas of the school division. Our consultant, Penny Leko, has been working with the teachers in our Kindergarten and Grade One classrooms. She will move on to the Grade 2 and 3 classes in the future

  1. Assessment Data – Aimsweb fall results shared with parents. Aimsweb is a screen, a snapshot in time. It can alert to possible difficulties a student may have and it is one way to show growth to parents. We use the criterion-based reporting. It is important to remember that some things that are screened for may not be taught until the spring therefor we would not expect the students to do well on them yet (ie. M-Comp)
  2. Miscellaneous Items

-  School skating – date set for January 16, February 6 and March 6. Groups will each go for approximately 1 hour (same as last year). Kenton is arranging for bussing

4.  Items for Discussion

  1. Joint Committee – Transition Meeting #6 Lisa & Chrissy attended – School is getting deadlines from contractors; proposed completion date of August/September 2016. Administration currently taking information/concerns to staff and working on solutions together.

WJHS is planning some celebratory activities such as auctioning ceiling tiles with student artwork, jerseys, band shirts, etc.

  5. Thurs April 30th –Spaghetti & meat sauce or tomato sauce
  6. Tues June 23rd – Taco in a bag ( Myrna will be able to provide a ground turkey alternative at extra cost)
  7. Fundraising

New play structure would be around $50 000. We have been advised to watch the sale flyers for the companies that sell this equipment to purchase on sale price.

Sound system update: most of the teachers were impressed with the RedCat system. PRO AV will install a demo model of a sound field system November 26. These are around $1600 each (RedCat is cheaper) and 5 are needed for sure, possibly more. There is currently $5718.90 in the account that can be used for this. Also, some school based budget and school generated funds (gym rental) can be used for this.

Since including information about gym rental in the newsletter there has been an increase in interest for this. It is currently rented for a variety of functions such as basketball, karate, Big Brother/Big Sisters.

Many SCC members like the soup fundraiser because it is different from the other fundraisers in the community and offers a good profit. Lisa will follow up with Two Broke Gals. We would like to have this set up for students to sell over the Christmas Break.

Lisa will also follow up with Boston Pizza about their receipt fundraiser. Will see if they will collect receipts there, if we need to collect and submit.

Fundraising information will be discussed via email.
