Manager’s Report
1. Anonymous Grant. On December 26, 2007 WWOZ received an anonymous donation of $12,000 as a conditional match offered during our December On-Air Membership Three-Day “Power” Drive.
2. The Storper Family Foundation. On January 7, 2008, WWOZ received a donation of $1,375 to underwrite equipment for our live performance studio.
3. Zoline Foundation. On January 2, 2008, WWOZ received $1,000 from the Zoline Foundation as a conditional match during our December On-Air Membership 3-Day “Power” Drive.
4. Capital Campaign. WWOZ Development Director Mary Liz Keevers reported that Bob Edmundson contributed $1,000 as the last installment on his pledge of $5,000 to WWOZ’s Capital Campaign.
5. WWOZ Holiday Bazaar. On December 14th, 15th and 21st, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Foundation and WWOZ sold Festival and station gear at its annual “Holiday Bazaar” located in the Foundation’s offices, 1205 North Rampart Street. Maryse Dejean who headed up this activity for WWOZ reported income of $4,220.
6. Swamp Shop. Since the last Governance Board Meeting, WWOZ’s e-commerce site has reported sales of $1,572.
7. End-of-Year Solicitations. An additional e-mail went out on December 27th. This end-of-year appeal was sent to those who had not donated during the October and December drives and raised more than $4,765 in contributions
8. Renewal Mailing. On December 5th, 627 letters were mailed out to WWOZ listeners whose membership were about to expire. This resulted in $8,910 in membership contributions.
9. Lapsed Member Mailing. On December 1st, 5,500 letters were mailed out to former WWOZ members. As of today, a total of $4,320 has been received. Checks and credit card donations are still coming in at a steady rate and proceeds are expected to flow in for about 6 weeks.
10. Underwriting. During the period December 11, 2007 through January 8, 2008, the WWOZ Underwriting Department reports that it collected $1,101 from station sponsors.
11. Sweet Home New Orleans. During the past month, WWOZ has received $4,000 in donations for Sweet Home New Orleans, a non-profit organization of which WWOZ is a founding member, established to provide support for musicians wishing to return to New Orleans.

12. Music Director. On January 2, 2008 Scott Borne was selected as WWOZ’s first Music Director. In addition to handling the normal duties of that position, Scott will also be charged with carrying out the digitization of WWOZ’s music archive.
13. Assistant Engineer. Tony Guillory will begin work on January 15, 2008 as WWOZ’s Assistant Engineer. Tony has been a consulting engineer to WWOZ since its inception in 1980 and will be tasked with aiding WWOZ Chief Engineer Damond Jacob in all aspects of the station’s engineering operations.
14. WWOZ – The Public Face of New Orleans. In a report issued November, 2007 Edison Media Research released a report of the “10 Best Cities for Radio Listening,” in which New Orleans placed 5th. The report cited WWOZ along with WWL as the “public face of New Orleans” to the world. “Radio and music,” the report went on to say, “are very much part of the culture that New Orleans gives the world.”

15. Press and Promotion.
WDSU-TV, Friday, December 28th. Royal Sonesta publicist Roberta Groves was inter- viewed on the Channel 6 morning news program where she singled out the hotel’s partnership with WWOZ, citing the December 30th performance of Bill Solley and Kim Prevost broadcast live from the Royal Sonesta. “WWOZ radio, like the Royal Sonesta,” she said, “is committed to showcasing New Orleans’ finest musicians of all genres.”
XM Satellite Radio. Thursday, January 3rd. David Freedman was interviewed on XM Satellite Radio’s Sports Channel by Kevin Blackstone, on assignment in New Orleans to cover the BCS Bowl Games. During the live interview, which lasted 25 minutes, the station’s General Manager was asked to assess the current state of the music scene in the city and to comment on the status of post-Katrina WWOZ.
