Western Propaganda: How the Western World Manipulates Her
Citizens Effectively and Efficiently:
An Annotated Bibliography
Thesis: Although the West values the personal and public freedoms that manifest in their society, the freedom of the media is not pure and may be, in fact, more dangerous than the media of the rest of the world.
Calderone, Micahel. "Donald Trump Makes Sure Brussels Coverage Is About Donald
Trump."Huffpost Media. The Huffington Post, 22 Mar. 2016. Web. 22 Mar. 2016.
Summary: The article mainly discusses Donald Trump and his attitude to the terrorist attack in Brussels. He writes that Trump exclaims that “Trump is the right amount of Trump” for this tragedy that struck Belgium and Europe. He goes on to quote further on Trump only aspects that show what he wants to do with the United States. He writes further on the candidate behavior of Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Ted Cruz.
Analysis: The Author’s main thesis in his piece is that Trump only cares about himself in this campaign and is nowhere near presidential. The author has a strong bias, being from the Huffington Post which is normally characterized as left, however his bias falls further. The writer fails to mention anything regarding how Hillary, Cruz and Bernie made this about their campaigns. I will integrate this piece into my paper because it is a clear example of the bias in US media and how it behaves similarly to Propaganda. I will analyze the readers of the Huffington Post and see how much is a bias, and how much truly behaves like Propaganda. This, along with 1 or 2 more articles, I will string together how most of the news, as uncensored as it may be, specifically writes articles to benefit the Government or their Party.
"President Putin 'probably' Approved Litvinenko Murder - BBC News." BBC News. British
Broadcasting Channel, 21 Jan. 2016. Web. 22 Mar. 2016.
Summary: An Article in the BBC writes about the murder of an ex-Russian spy who was poisoned and dead. The news company concluded that it was most likely the doing of President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation. Citing many sources, the article was able to compile a story linking the President to the death. At a time where tension is already hot between Russia and the West, the article was able to bring up other issues pertaining to Russia.
Analysis: The thesis of the news article would be forming the connection between Vladimir Putin and the ex-Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko. The article, obviously biased in favor of Britain, with increasing pressure between the West and Russia, creates an excuse to further talk about the issues that have arisen “because” of Russia. The “unbiased” news company jumped to such a conclusion, I can use this in my argument.I can use this article well in my essay because I can expand on how the Western Media shine an obvious negative light on the opponents of their respective governments, even though they are democratic nations with free presses. I may use further examples just quoting the titles of Articles from Western Media on their governments’ opponents.
