Rock for People Europe will take over Pilsen in one month time

Press Release – Pilsen / 25. 5. 2015

Music legends and progressive names of the European contemporary scene, combined with the inimitable atmosphere of an industrial environment, will be on offer at Rock for People Europe in one month time. Throw in the comfort of a city festival, and you’ve got the idea.

Headlining the Pilsen edition, which will be held from 3 July to 5 July, are the legendary British band, Motörhead. The rock pioneers, led by founding member Ian "Lemmy" Kilmistrem, have played almost four thousand concerts around the world during the last four decades, and on the 4th of July the industrial areas of the former transport depot will resound to their sounds. We also expect that visitors will be treated, for the first time, to some songs from their new album which is due for release in the autumn. Rock for People Europe will be held as part of the celebrations for Pilsen – European City of Culture 2015.

In the Czech Republic, they are not considered new, or just another representative of the British music scene. Modestep are a very popular bunch here, skilfully combining rock with dubstep and drum'n'bass. From neighbouring Austria come the main pioneers of electroswing, Parov Stelar, who a few days ago released a new album called The Demon Diaries. Among other attractions confirmed at the festival are the ageless Guano Apes from Germany, guitarist and songwriter Fink, hitmakers The Ting Tings and enfant terrible from the UK, musician and singer Peter Doherty.

At the heart of Rock for People Europe be Creative Zone DEPO2015. The renovated areas of the former transport depot are a design space with an inimitable genius location. Visitors will be able to choose from a varied menu of European music containing nearly 100 choices, which will be served to them on one giant outdoor stage and another two indoor stages. There will be a rich support program including outdoor activities, numerous exhibitions, workshops and even a coffee shop cinema. Visitors to the festival also gain free access to other Pilsen 2015 events and exhibitions currently being held at DEPO2015.

"Thanks to this, we’re not only offering a loaded music event in Pilsen, but also the chance to learn what’s happening at the peak of European design, with the DOMUS exhibition, or view the offerings of sculptor Čestmír Suška which come in the form of several metres of metal objects in the depot courtyard. You can also have an eye-catching peek into the lives of Pilsen residents, with an exhibition of family photos sent directly by the inhabitants of the city. We also want to invite visitors to events taking place outside the depot premises, namely to the Black Box of New Theatre (Nové Divadlo), where your festival tickets will give you free entry to see the progressive arts of respected Japanese electronic musician and composer Ryoji Ikeda with his audio visual installation called Test Pattern [N ° 7], " welcomes Pilsen 2015 director, Jiri Suchanek.

Rock for People regularly tries to imagine what the home crowd expects, and brings artists whose careers are now more or less on an upward spiral. "We have adapted the dramaturgy to the European style, but still we keep our proven model. We don’t only want to invite well known bands, but to widen the visual field of the public and get some fresh names from various genres" explains Michal Thomes, the festival's co-founder. Indie rock lovers will be delighted with, for example, the winners of the European Border Breakers Awards for best new European music act of 2013, the Finnish group, French films. Also of interest is the Dutch discovery, De Staat, the four Spanish maniacs, GOMAD! Monster who combine acoustic rock and electronic elements with demonic energy and a vibrant live show, or a fresh discovery, JoyCut, from Italy.

Stars of the Czech music scene will also have a presence at Rock for People Europe. Enjoy Vojta Dyk with his B-Side Band, Skyline, Vladimir 518 and many others. They will include performances from Pilsen bands which emerged from a competition festival organizers called ‘Battle of Pilsen’. For nearly four dozen entries, Donnie Darko, Johhny Survived Love and Earth were chosen by a jury headed by Michal Thomes.

Among the stars announced for the festival include greats such as Faith No More, nu metal Limp Bizkit, darlings of the indie scene, Bastille, and Canadians, Three Days Grace, who will be playing in the Czech Republic for the first time.
