HAWAII DOE SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION
The Hawaii State Department of Education, Windward District Transportation Office, Roberts Hawaii Bus Service and Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCB Hawaii) have put together a collaborative effort that will restore limited bus services to MCB Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay. Bus transportation service will resume on 30 July in time for the first day of classes for students attending public schools.
There are several important changes to the restoration that families need to be aware of: the number of service routes have been cut from 8 in the past to now 2; the two available routes have been determined according to logistics and ridership in order that services will be maximized; selected centralized pick-up and drop-off points have been determined in order to provide families from all communities aboard the base with the most feasible and appropriate locations. Please note students can only take the designated bus for their respective communities. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis according to the School District Transportation Office and the Bus Company.
Families intending on utilizing the school bus as transportation from the following communities: Hana Like, Hawaii Loa, Heleloa, Kapoho, Waikulu Communities, will be picked-up and dropped-off at the MCB Hawaii Youth Activities Center (Teen Center); Buses serving these areas will be identified as W90A and W90B. W90A will serve Kalaheo High students and W90B Kailua Intermediate School students.
For those families residing in the Kaluapuni, Mokolea, Mololani, Nani Ulupa’u, Pa Honua, and Ulupa’u Communities there will be two pick-up and drop-off stops, one at Shimabukuro Place (off Mokapu Road near the back gates) and a second near the Mololani Community Center (formerly bus stop 23) at South Lawrence Road and Brown Drive.
For students utilizing services from Shimabukuro Place and South Lawrence Road, the designated buses are W91A and W91B. W91A will serve Kalaheo High School and W91B to Kailua Intermediate School. Each respective school has been provided with this information as a part of this working agreement and Bus passes are now on sale at both Kalaheo High and Kailua Intermediate Schools.
Unfortunately services to Mokapu Elementary School and from the Manana Housing Communities, serving Webling Elementary, Aiea Intermediate, Aiea High, Highlands Intermediate and Pearl City High Schools are still discontinued at this time and will not be re-evaluated until further notice.
