Virginia’s Regions Poster

This Project will count as a test grade!!!

In social studies you learned about the five regions of Virginia: The Coastal Plain (Tidewater), Piedmont, Blue Ridge Mountains, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau. You are going to choose one of these regions and design an informational poster about them. The purpose of your poster will be to convince people that this region is a good place to live.

You can use your notes and textbook to help you.

Coastal Plain (Tidewater):Textbook pages 18-23
Piedmont: Textbook pages 24-25
Blue Ridge Mountains: Textbook pages 26-27
Valley and Ridge: Textbook pages 28-29
Appalachian Plateau: Textbook pages 30-31

Follow the directions below to create your poster.

1)Create a map showing your region.

-Create a map showing your region’s location

-Create a caption for the graphic (Blue Ridge Mountains, etc.)

2)Geography:

-Use your notes and your textbook to write a paragraph about the geography of your region. Your paragraph should explain what the land is like and any land features that it may have (peninsulas, rivers, mountains, Cumberland Gap, etc.)

-Draw a picture to go with it.

3)Industries:

-Write a paragraph describing the industries of your region. Your paragraph should explain all the different ways people make money in your region.

-Draw a picture to go with it.

4)Text Features

-Your poster should have at least four text features that you have discussed in class (title, headings, pictures, captions, bold and italic words, bullets, maps)
