Choose one of the following prompts to write a well-constructed essay of 200-250 words. Proofread your work before turning it in.

Your essay will have four paragraphs. You will decide which paragraph will be graded on each of the following grading criteria:

  • one paragraph for task completion (5 points);
  • one paragraph for topic development … ¡casas bonitas! (5 points);
  • one paragraph for language use [grammar] (5 points).

*You can choose which category you want to have gradedtwice.

Use all three of the following stories as sources. Be sure to refer to something from each story at least once.

  • Rosa por Ángel Balzarino
  • Génesis por Marco Denevi
  • Apocalipsis por Marco Denevi

You may use a dictionary, although I do not recommend that you look up more than 1 word per paragraph. Please include words that you take from the dictionary in the glossary at the end of the essay.

You may use quotes from the text, but limit yourself to short phrases. You should be retelling things in your own words.

Planning

First paragraph: HOTT

Hook - - - Something to catch the reader’s attention

Overview - - - of the issue as related to the hook (not just restating the prompt)

CIRCLE key words in the prompt. List verbs here ______

Thesis - - - Stating your position and why it is so

Themes - - - TWO items that are used to prove theme

Paragraph two and Paragraph three each developing one theme: TEST

Topic - - - Sentence containing a statement of the theme to be developed

Evidence - - - As many sentences as needed to present the evidence in support of theme  great place to use texts!

Summary - - - Stating how the evidence supports the thesis

Transition - - - to the next paragraph

Closing paragraph: STOP

Summation - - - Relating evidence just covered to the thesis

Thesis - - - Restated and more developed due to development in the essay

Rewrite your thesis here, with more oomph now that you’ve explained it!!

Opinion - - - Taking the reader beyond the essay’s immediate topic to show a larger idea or implication
