2015-2016 Bridge Funding Program
For Research in the Social sciences and humanities
The Office of the Vice-President of Research and International (VPRI) in partnership with the Support Programs to Advance Research Capacity (SPARC) is pleased to introduce a pilot Bridge Funding Program to support researchers that wish to improve and re-submit applications that were unsuccessful in the preceding Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) competition cycle.
Guidelines
· VPRI awards have a maximum value of $2,500 and must be matched by UBC Faculty Depts/Units.
· Awards are for a maximum duration of 1 year. There is no funding extension beyond that time.
· Researchers may only apply for Bridge Funding once for each SSHRC competition.
· Allowable expenses are outlined in the Tri-Agency Financial Administration Guide. Eligibility questions may be directed to the SPARC contact of the corresponding SSHRC program as listed below.
· A mandatory progress meeting must be scheduled with SPARC prior to the corresponding SSHRC program’s application submission deadline in 2015-2016.
Eligibility Requirements
· Matching funds must be approved by the faculty member's Head of Department or appropriate contact with a signed Research Project Information Form (RPIF) before applying for the Bridge Funding Program.
· Applications for the Bridge Funding Program must be for an application to SSHRC adjudicated in 2014-2015 that will be re-submitted in the 2015-2016 SSHRC competition cycle.
· Approval of applications to the Bridge Funding Program is subject to availability of funds.

Application submission requirements
· Applicants must complete the Bridge Funding Application Form.
· Applications for the Bridge Funding Program must be accompanied by an RPIF.
· Completed applications must be submitted by email to the following SPARC contacts:

Eligible expenses include student research assistant or coordinator salaries; relevant expenses and associated travel costs for knowledge-sharing, planning or data collection activities such as team meetings, roundtables, consultations, interviews or other; publication costs; or other justified expenses aimed at improving the SSHRC grant application.
