What’s Happening at Alliance
/After such a beautiful fall, winter is finally here! We are so excited for the events planned in December as we gear up for the holidays!
Welcome MmeChirgwin-Popp
What’s another month without another welcome?! This month, we welcome MmeChrirgwin-Popp who is filling in for Mme Ferreira while she is off on leave. MmeChirgwin-Popp is like family at Alliance and we are so appreciative of her support for our school.
Extra-Curricular Events
We wish our Gator basketball teams the best of luck as they battle for basketball glory in their upcoming tournament. The girls will play on Tuesday Dec 5th and the boys will play on Wednesday 6th. Way to go athletes on your commitment and dedication to the team, and thank you so much toMmesRoynon, Bourréand Hughes for coaching the girls and to MmeChechak and Mme Drouin for coaching the boys.
Our volleyball teams will be under way upon return of the holidays. MmeBourréwill be coaching the girls’ team and MmeCarter will be coaching the boys’ team.
Bully Prevention Week
Thank you so much to everyone’s efforts for making Bully Prevention Week such a success. Members of Gator-Aid did such a great job talking about what to do if you are bullied, and how to be a kind friend. The painted rocks in the garden look amazing (despite them being under the snow), and we even had a pink bus visit our school (courtesy of Stock Transportation), spreading positive messages about keeping everyone safe not only at school, but on the way to school too! Our Safe Schools Team at Alliance have also worked hard to create our Bully Prevention Plan, and it is now posted on our Website.
Inclement Weather
It is that time of year! Please tune in to local radio stations for information regarding bus cancellations. If buses are cancelled in the morning, they will not be running in the afternoon. Schools generally remain open on inclement weather days. Please refer to the Inclement Weather brochure that is posted on our Website for more information.
Christmas at Alliance
Alliance will be getting into the spirit of the season with some annual events and activities in the month of December.
On Wednesday December 13th, we will be hosting a Book Fair – just in time for some last-minute gifts! The Book Fair will run 3 days, ending on the 15th, and will be in the library which is in the portables. Please remember to always sign in to the front office prior to entering and signing out when exiting all buildings of the school.
We are now selling tickets for our annual “Themed Basket Raffle”. Tickets are $1.00 each, or $10.00 for a sheet of 10tickets, and can be purchased via Cash Online, or by cash. We are not accepting cheques for raffle tickets. On the day of the draw, which is coincides with the Open House,we will be selling tickets in the gym. Each class is assigned a theme for the baskets, so if you can, please donate something to your child’s basket (see ideas below). Please send basket items in by December 15th. The basket draw will be held on the same day as our Open House (Wednesday December 20th).
The ELK classes will welcome their families for a Christmas Concert, from 11:15am – 11:45am in the gym. Also during this time, and until 12:50pm, all other classes will welcome their families into their classrooms for an Open House. During the last block (after the Open House), we will be drawing for the baskets. All proceeds from the basket sales will go towards the North Bay Santa Fund.
Alliance will also be collecting new and gently used toys for LIPI, until December 18th. You can drop off your items in the front hallway (there are cardboard boxes ).
Finally, we will have spirit days during the last week of school (i.e. Red, White, and Green day, Ugly Sweater Day, etc.) – check the attached December calendar or our Website and/or Facebook page
for details.
Spirit Wear
Spirit Wear makes a great Christmas gift, and although we are not selling it at the school at this time, it is always available at Source for Sports. Please contact them if you have questions.
Lice
With more time being spent indoors, visiting with family and friends, we are noticing some cases of lice. When a child has lice, parents are contacted and the child must go home until they are nit-free. A letter goes home to the rest of the students in the class, notifying them that there is a case of lice in the classroom. When they return, children are to check in at the office, to get checked before returning to class. Lice can be such a nuisance, that’s why we are relying on parents to do regular head checks on their children to keep the situation under control. If you notice that your child has lice at home, please communicate this to the school, so we can ensure a head-check is done upon the child’s return to school.
Secured Doors at Alliance
There has been a delay in installing the secured doors at Alliance, so parents will not need to ‘buzz in’ for the month of December. We are hopeful that the doors will be ready to go when we get back after the break, but you will be notified when this happens.
Pizza and Subs
Pizza and Subs will be available for order for the month of December on Cash Online. The orders will be for the months of January, February, and March. The last day to order for this time period will be on December 18th. No late orders will be accepted, so please be mindful of the date (I know how busy December can be).
