6th Grade Presentations:
Mrs. Young shared class data from Reflex Math, i-ready, math facts, Illuminate, and AR. She shared progress and growth in all areas from mid-year. She expressed her appreciation for these programs as well as IXL and small group math and reading instruction. She sees a need for fine arts for our upper grade students to develop their creativity and express themselves.
Priorities: ixl, Reflex Math, i-ready, small groups for reading and math, fine arts, math intervention and afternoon computer lab differentiation.
Mrs. Black presented her class data from the following sources: Reflex Math, i-ready, Illuminate benchmark and AR. She has not seen the amount of growth overall that she hoped for, but is seeing individual growth with her students. She uses ixl as a math and LA resource for tier 2 and 3 support. She feels that small groups for both math and reading are very important and have supported the growth they see in the individual math SAGE scores. She also advocates for fine arts for 6th grade students.
Priorities: ixl, Reflex Math, i-ready, small groups for reading and math, math intervention, fine arts, and math lab support.
Mid-year data review
Julie shared the updated mid-year data for i-ready, SJSD Illuminate benchmark, SB230 K-3 DIBELS, and attendance. Discussions centered around the purpose of each assessment and what we can get from the data to use in the decision-making process. We discussed the difference between benchmark data and diagnostic data. We clearly identified progress in ELA and math, however still a need to keep improving in the direction we are headed. We also discussed the need to target support towards science. Staff had shared their interest in adding science to the IXL program for next year. Council members agreed. We also discussed the need to continue focus on science instruction daily for next year. We plan to tap into Jamie Carling support for science STEM instruction as funds are available.
Priorities and upcoming plan
Priorities were discussed as a council. All in attendance agreed to wait to get a closer estimate on the final estimated budget at the end of March to make final decisions. We discussed a possible addendum if carry-over funds were available. It was decided if the money was available we would consider a 3-year ixl license including science. If not, we would look at a 1-year license. Final decisions and the written plan will be discussed at the April 4th meeting.
Next meeting scheduled for April 4th at 3:15.
