WEBINAR TWO: CREATING DESIGNS AND ADDING TEXTURE
Q: I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT LESSON. CAN I SEND IN BOTH STITCHOUTS AT THE SAME TIME OR SHOULD I SEND THEM IN SEPARATELY IN ORDER TO GET TWO ENTRIES IN THE DRAWING?
A: Yes you can send them together so long as they get here by the 15thyou will get two entries into the drawing.
Q: Does a hard copy manual come with the software?
A: yes
Q: How can I input my embroidery thread inventory?
A: You can set up Generations to use your existing thread inventory. If you would like more explanation just give us a call
Q: the panel she has open on the left. How do I open that on mine?
A: I believe you are talking about the stitch sequence. Go to the view menu at the top and make sure that you have a check mark next to stitch sequence option and/ or any other menus that you may want on that are currently not displayed
Q: So vector files are best to use?
A: Generally speaking vector art will come in cleaner but of course it depends on the image itself because you can also have bad vector art.
Q: What are the left and right clicks again?
A: Left click defines a straight line. Right click defines a curve
Q: I noticed on the worksheet that it lists the number of trims. Does Generations automatically put in trim commands?
A: Great question! Yes it does if your machine will capable of trimming.
Q: If there was an area in your design that stitched out sparsely how would you add individual stitches
A: If you need to add stitches to an area you would want to increase your density settings for that area. Remember that density in an inverse relationship! Standard setting is .40mm so to increase your number of stitches you would DECREASE this setting. For example .20mm would have roughly twice as many stitches.
Q: What if you want to combine 2 designs. Can you open them both up in the same window?
A: Yes. You would insert your first image. Digitize it. Then insert the next image into the same design.
Q: mine won't open into the paint program. Why do you think it won't?
A: You will need to turn your image edit dialog box option on in your view preferences
Q: What view did she select to edit the image externally before bringing it into generations?
A: In the view preferencesyou can choose to have an edit image option
View....
View preferences.....
Uncheck... Do not show edit image dialog box
Q: If I want to use the same stamp pattern and layout in multiple areas how would I do that?
A: you would hold down control button and select the multiple areas that you want to apply the same effect to.
Q: If I set it up one area then realize later that I would like to use it in another area is there a way to 'copy' it?
A: you would just need to note the numbers in the settings for the effect that you created and then type them into the same boxes on the other area. The numbers that I’m talking about are the number that change on the side of the edit window.
Q: What is the smallest size lettering that can be digitized well in Generations?
A: this is something we covered in detail in the first webinar. The program has lettering as small as 5mm in both line and satin stitches built into it. if you need help with this info please let me know and we can go through it together.
Q: When she opened the new design, she said it will be on top? Can you view multiple work areas at the same time?
A: yes. you would just tile your work screens
Q: Is trims the same as cuts or scissors in the stitch viewer
A: Yes. This refers to the code for the machine. If your machine does not trim it will ignore the code.
Q: Great job again...question on my screen I see small stitches, actually the running stitches that are stitching under the green from the dots. How can I eliminate these?
A: Those are the Traveling stitches that you are seeing. If you activate the trim command between the two pieces in the stitch sequence the software will put in a locking stitch and the machine will trim..
Q: How can you insert ties and trims after sections of the designs.
A: The program does this automatically when digitizing and can be controlled in the stitch settings for each area by going to the tie offs tab in the properties for each area.
Q: can you only resize a design 50%? I tried several times from 25mm to 100 mm and it wouldn't resize over 49.9mm. Why was this?
A: this depends on if you’re using a native (.gen) file or imported file. Maybe contact me afterwards and we can go through this.
Q: I was wondering about the lock button - what is it also the super align tool.
A: The lock button gives you the ability to lock a section of your design so that it cannot be changed until you unlock it again. Super align gives you the ability to take multiple objects and align them. For example you have text and above a design you can select both of them perfectly center them with each other with this function
Q: How do you define an exact width for a satin line?
A: Draw a line with the continuous line tool. By default it will draw a running stitch. After you draw a line, turn off the tool by pressing escape. The line will automatically be selected (blinking at you) You can then change this new line to a satin stitch in your stitch property settings. When you are in you stitch properties select the line tab at the top and change the line width to what you desire.
Q: can you draw a line which you can set a satin fill to?
A: you can also apply a satin stitch to an area that you drew as a line originally. This will give you a satin area that is an equal width all the way across
Q: Can .gen files be renamed, such as a .hus or .shv file?
A: No you would not rename the**.gen file the programs native file. You would open .gen file and then go to the export function and select the file you want to save to. e.g. .hus , .pes, etc.
Q: Do you have to select the twain source if you only have one hooked up to your computer or can you just go to Create?
A: You should be able to just go to create and it will see your scanner....but some computers will handle this differently so I can’t say for 100%
Q: what about push and pull
A: Pull compensation is used becuase the stitches will sink into your fabric so when you design is stitched. The design will actually be the size of the art work. If you do not use compensation your design will stitch smaller than the artwork
Q: when you are making things bigger or smaller, is the stitch count changing?
A: yes. The system will re process the stitches for you to the appropriate amount automatically
Q: Is there a way to decide what stitch type is better to use in your designs? Or does it matter?
A: The program will make best decision for you based on digitizing theory and techniques but you can always override what it thinks if you would prefer one type of stitch over another.
Q: could you copy the first flower pedal and then paste it and turn it instead of doing each one?
A: you could but that would actually require more steps. each petal is a part of the artwork so you can change each piece otherwise you would need to remove the additional pedals, ungroup the objects of the flower, copy past three times, rotate each one, place them over the deleted areas, and then group the objects back together. i can go through this more with you if you would like.
Q: My left to right stitches are pulling up the bobbin threads. Front and back are fine.
A: This is most likely your tension. Send in the sample so the assessor can evaluate what you got going on.
Q: I have seen designs that have a straight stitch down the center of the satin stitch
A: that is probably due to the long stitch break settings. this is a safety feature for your machine. you can control this in the stitch properties on the Satin stitch tab.
