Summary

These unit standards were reviewed to support the New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 4) [Ref: 2746] and the New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) [Ref: 2993]. A suite of Level 4 and 5 unit standards were developed to align with the graduate profile outcomes in content and credit value. The suite of standards includes some reviewed standards and some new.

This review proceeded alongside the review ofAdult Literacy and Numeracy Education (ALNE)unit standardsto ensure that cross-crediting between the ALNEqualifications and the New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) [Ref: 2993] was supported.

During late 2015 and early 2016, an expert panel comprised of representationfromthe tertiary sector (polytechnic, private training establishment, wānanga); an ALNE specialist; and a moderator, met to review these standards.

The new drafts of the standards were developed and circulated to the following members of the wider network for consultation and endorsement:

  • providers that had recorded results against these standards;
  • current ALNE qualification owners;
  • other stakeholders who had expressed an interest in being part of the consultation process.

Main changes

  • The standards have taken a more integrated approach,mirroring the qualification conditions.
  • The credit valuesand levels were considered in the context of the qualifications.

-The levels of standards 7093 and 11551 were decreased tobetter reflect the level of the content in the standards.

-Credit values for standards 11551,11552and 7093 were increased to better reflect the amount of work required by candidates.

  • Two standards (7102 and 19444) have changed significantlyand each wasreplaced by a new standard.
  • Three new standardshave been developed to ensure there are sufficient standards for those who want to develop unit-standards-based programmes leading to qualifications [Ref: 2746] and [Ref: 2993].

Category C unit standards will expire at the end of December2020
