Key Faculty Planning Priorities for 2018

  • Development of curriculum to align with the Australian Curriculum, ATARand IB program.
  • Implementation and integration of Dimension of Learning and Cognitive Verbs into all Creative Arts Subjects
  • Integrating the concepts of Global Perspectives into all areas of teaching and learning within the Creative Arts
  • Student targets identified by staff and students
  • Data placements to inform teaching and learning
  • Focus on continuous improvement (Kaizen).
  • Provide opportunities for meaningful Professional Development with a focus on pedagogy, literacy and numeracy and ICT’s; PD to promote and support the school philosophies and objectives.
  • Literacy and Numeracy Years 7-12.
  • Focus on creativity and innovation across the arts.
  • Continue to develop an appreciation of internationalism and foster an environment where inclusive intercultural relationships are understood and embedded in practice (Ubuntu).

  • Year 7 and 8 Creative Arts Curriculum was revised Dec 2017- altered drama unit, independent unit and media unit. Year 7 now has guitar unit and no composition.
  • Creative Arts staff will have access to PD funding to attend workshops relating to literacy and numeracy and curriculum. Seek out subject specific PD, particularly for film and media.
  • Professional development undertaken for the improvement of student literacy by altering individual subject unit plans to include specific reading and writing strategies.
  • PD for staff to deepen their understanding of Dim 3 and 4 and find methods to authentically apply this within the classroom.
  • Through PD and staff networks, teachers will develop new strategies to facilitate programs that improve innovation, creativity and critical thinking for all students.
  • Development and implementation of the IB Music and Visual Arts program in senior years.
  • Train new IB staff in Visual Arts and Music – Bec Cat 1. Current IB staff to undergo Cat 2 training.
  • Implementation of IB Music and Visual Art curriculum within the senior years. 10-12
  • Use mentorship and buddy teacher class observations and self-reflection to improve their practices.
  • Use data to inform lesson planning and work on extending students and work with students who are performing below their potential. Advise to move to One school/dashboard.
  • PD for staff to manage ESL students and DOL – school wide PD.
  • Staff to update and refine exemplars, DOL task sheets and DOL unit plansfor all assessment items.
  • Expansion of virtual classrooms across all Creative Arts subjects.Access Wikihow.
  • Revision of all senior work programs to align with ATAR.
  • Expose senior students to a range of industry related experiences including guest speakers and dedicated ‘subject specific” workshops. Extend students through these avenues.
  • Revise SAS work programs to align with new senior curriculum (QCAA).
  • Maintain/grow Instrumental Music numbers; highlight to parents and students that IM can contribute toward QCE under the ATAR system (11-12).

  • Authentically embed Global Perspectives within the Year 7 Creative Arts subject – project with Tracey Hopper and the Global Education Unit.

  • Continue to increase student access to latest software and industry standard technology across all Creative Arts subjects.
  • Build the presence of multimedia more within the faculty and across the school. Include within a Creative Arts evening (F.A.M.E.D)
  • Encourage all staff to continually update ICT skills and ensure an excellent working knowledge of the ICTs available to them.

Ensure the continued development and reputation of the Creative Arts Precinct. /
  • Maintain and develop partnerships involving the Creative Arts within the community.
  • Enhance and refine celebratory events including Music Performance Nights, Extension Music Performance evenings,‘F.A.M.E.D’,industry performance evenings, Instrumental Music showcases, Dance Fusion and Creative Arts Showcase (bi-annually).
  • Acknowledge and publicly celebrate student achievement in the Creative Arts through school newsletters, Facebook and the school website.
  • Ensure high achieving students are nominated for awards both at a school and community level and are acknowledged for their achievements. Encourage and support students to submit work for external competitions and events.
/ Continue to build significant community partnerships with arts groups within the Redlands with a focus in 2018 of developing strong partnerships with: Redlands Museum; Redlands Performing Arts Centre; Redlands Art gallery, artists in residence, Ormiston House, Topology and Mandalay.
Utilise RPAC and industry professionals to enhance Music Showcase and Dance Fusion productions. In 2018 combine FTV, Media and Visual arts and Drama (F.A.M.E.D) into a collaborative evening.
Acknowledgement of student achievementthrough social media and school newsletter.
