JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: / Assistant ManagerStarting Salary: / £22000
Hours of Work: / 37.5 hours per week (hours of work to be agreed with line manager)
Responsible To: / Manager
Based at: / WCCU Shop premises
Main Purpose: / To provide excellent quality of service to credit union members including the provision of front-of-house services and to contribute to the continuous improvement of all services.
To deputise for the credit union manager as required.
To continually assist the credit union in delivering its ‘Mission’ to the members.
To assist the Manager in guiding branch office staff by providing quality service to members, through sales and service of products with the expectation of meeting or exceeding company and individual goals.
Main Contacts: / WCCU members, staff and volunteer team and voluntary and statutory sector partners, stakeholders and Board Members.
Duties: /
- To deputise for the manager in the event of their absence.
- To be responsible for opening and closing the shop premises and ensuring it is open for business and fully staffed during opening hours.
- Supervision, support and induction of staff and volunteers.
- Training of staff and volunteers in the use of PROGRESS software and other credit union procedures.
- Ensure all monies collected are banked in accordance with set procedures.
- Make sure all transaction posting is done correctly by the appropriate deadlines.
- To be responsible for the supervision of the assessment, approval and issue of loans in accordance with credit union policies and procedures, and for credit scoring and credit checks of all loan applications
- Ensuring credit control procedures are implemented within the appropriate time frames.
- Ensuring adequate records are kept on a daily basis in order to comply with statutory reporting requirements.
- Plan, organise and staff the credit union to accomplish the objectives of the organisation.
- To assist the manager with staff appraisals and one-to ones.
- Maintaining accurate member records and making adjustments where necessary.
- Ensure that all accounting records are in balance and up to date and that financial reports are complete and accurate.
- Provide information to the regulatory authorities in a timely fashion and ensure that regulatory requirements of CREDS are adhered to.
- Responsible for balancing cash tills and ensuring that appropriate cash levels are maintained within the branch.
- Supervision of manual and electronic filing of documents.
- Ensuring that appropriate Data Protection is maintained.

- Experience of financial monitoring including the use of a financial database and EXCEL spreadsheets
- Knowledge of premises management and health and safety issues relating to shop premises
- Excellent literacy and numeracy
- Proven attention to detail in record keeping
- Ability to work under own initiative and effectively direct the work of others
- Ability to set and meet strict deadlines and targets and provide information for reports and claims based on these targets
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people
- Understanding of diversityand ability to apply equal opportunities
- Good IT skills including word-processing, e-mail and spreadsheets
- Excellent customer service skills including dealing with difficult customers and complaints if required
- Experience of staff supervision and support
- Ability to recognise cues for sales opportunities and identify unexpressed need.

Desirable Criteria: / 1)Previous work experience in a financial, credit control or retail environment
